UPDATE: State House spent Sh4.5 billion outside its approved budget in the first nine months of FY2025/26, according to the Controller of Budget.

This is one of the highest cases of unplanned government spending in the period.

Kenya’s government has spent Sh17.3 billion on both domestic and foreign travel in 9 months of FY2025/26, according to the CoB.

State House alone spent Sh1.3 billion on foreign travel and Sh69 million on local travel in the same period.

UPDATE: Office of the Deputy President spent a total of Sh298 million on travel in 9 months of FY2025/26, according to the Controller of Budget.

This includes Sh76 million on foreign travel and Sh222 million on domestic travel.

UPDATE: Treasury CS John Mbadi is set to present the 2026/27 Budget amounting Sh4.8T before the house at 3PM amid rising debt, high living costs and pressure to fund key sectors.

The budget will rely heavily on domestic borrowing of nearly Sh998 billion, with MPs warning that revenue shortfalls could increase the country's debt burden.

The Senate spent Sh1 billion on local travel and Sh815 million on foreign travel in the same period.
