BATA GROUNDS DRAMA AS OUR OWN KIRWA JR SEES RED…

In today’s clash against Limuru at the Bata Grounds, our very own Rooftop Sports Club player, Kelvin Kiplimo Kirwa found himself at the centre of controversy in what can only be described as one of the most unusual refereeing decisions in recent memory.

Midway through the match, our player Viera Che Gunda went down with a serious head injury but the Center refereee allowed the play to continue, Kiplimo bravely questioned the referee on why the game wasn’t stopped for immediate medical attention. Instead of addressing this crucial matter of player safety, the referee reached straight for a red card, shocking both sets of players and fans inside the stadium.

The decision drew outrage, with many questioning whether a simple inquiry about safety warranted such harsh punishment.

At Rooftop Sports Club, we remain firm in our stance: player safety must always come first. No player should ever be punished for highlighting a matter as serious as a head injury.

We therefore call on referees to be extra keen on players’ safety and welfare. We also urge referees to be human and fair, not biased, especially when officiating Rooftop games.

From all of us at Rooftop Sports Club, we salute our national team for an incredible journey at CHAN 2024. You carried the hopes of millions, silenced the doubters, and flew our flag high with pride.

Yes, the road ended at the quarterfinals, but what you achieved is already historic Kenya’s first-ever CHAN knockout stage appearance. You fought with heart, courage and unity, proving that nothing is impossible when Kenyans believe.

To the players, coaches and the entire technical bench thank you for making us dream again. To the media teams who ensured timely coverage, we also extend our sincere appreciation.

This is not the end, but the beginning of greater things to come. AFCON 2027 on home soil awaits and we believe Kenya will rise even higher.

Yesterday, Our members turned up at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to witness and cheer the National Team as they beat Zambia in the ongoing CHAN Tournament.
