Meet Ann Shiku, the former wife of renowned Akorino gospel artist Allan Aaron, known for hits like "Kiriro" and "Wi Mutheru." Married in 2009 at just 20 years old, Ann and Allan shared seven years together and were blessed with four children.
Raised in Nakuru, Ann faced immense hardship early in life—losing both parents to HIV/AIDS while still in primary school. Despite the pain, she rose above it all, building a family and business with Allan in Nairobi. However, what she hoped would be a lasting union was riddled with silent red flags. She kept her struggles private, feeling she had no one and nowhere to turn.
Things took a devastating turn when Allan secured a visa to the U.S. a journey Ann herself financed, even sacrificing half of her menswear stock for his travel needs. Despite promises to repay and return, Allan cut all ties shortly after arriving abroad: ignoring calls, blocking her and the kids, and cutting off support. When he returned to Kenya in 2017, he never came home to them. Weeks later, he visited only to pick up his belongings, unplugging the TV while the children watched, and left without explanation.
Since then, Ann has navigated life as a single mother, battling depression, borrowing to survive, and ultimately reinventing herself. Today, she runs a car dealership along Kiambu Road. Allan is said to have remarried in the U.K. in 2021, but Ann holds no bitterness. She has chosen forgiveness and healing and remains open to love, this time seeking a man who will love her and her children, and who truly fears God.
These are just the highlights. On this powerful episode of Reke Ciume Na Ene with Ala-C, Ann opens up like never before.
