🇰🇪 WHY MATIANG’I COULD BE KENYA’S NEW KIBAKI

Kenya may not be looking for another loud politician. It may be looking for a manager.

That is where Fred Matiang’i increasingly resembles the political space once occupied by Mwai Kibaki.

🔵 1. COMPETENCE OVER CHEST-THUMPING
Kibaki built his reputation around competence and economic management. Matiang’i built his around getting government systems to work — particularly in Education and Interior.

🔵 2. A “GET THINGS DONE” LEADERSHIP STYLE
Matiang’i became known for demanding results from government departments. His education tenure was particularly associated with reforms aimed at restoring credibility to national examinations. (Dr. Fred Matiang’i)

🔵 3. LESS POLITICAL NOISE, MORE ADMINISTRATION
Like Kibaki, Matiang’i’s appeal can be framed around the idea that government should work, rather than constantly campaign.

🔵 4. RESPECT FOR PROFESSIONALISM
Kibaki was associated with bringing technocrats and professionals into government. Matiang’i similarly presents himself as someone whose strength lies in administration, systems and ex*****on.

🔵 5. THE “REBUILD KENYA” MESSAGE
Kibaki came to power in 2002 promising a break from years of stagnation. Today, Matiang’i can position himself as a candidate focused on restoring confidence in public institutions, the economy and government.

🔵 6. A BROAD COALITION CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
The 2002 Kibaki victory was built around opposition unity. Today, Matiang’i has emphasized the importance of bringing opposition forces together ahead of 2027. (Citizen Digital)

🔵 7. KENYA MAY WANT A PRESIDENT WHO “MANAGES,” NOT JUST “MOBILIZES”
The presidency is not a rally. It is a management job.

And that is perhaps the strongest argument for the “Matiang’i is the new Kibaki” narrative.

Kibaki represented competence at a moment Kenya wanted change.

The Singapore dream was not achieved through talk. Do things that people can see and build a track record that people can follow.
