Western Liberal Order and the Rise of the Global South

The question of what type of democracies exist is perhaps a relevant question to interrogate. Perhaps we should rightfully invoke the words of President Mandela during his inauguration speech as the first black President of South Africa.

“Never, never and never again shall people experience the oppression of one by another.”

If only this were true. From Gaza to Sudan to the Democratic Republic of Congo, this very injunction is under intense scrutiny if not being violated with intense impunity.

Respect for international rule of law is the cornerstone for the respect of the UN Charter.

Transforming Global Governance to Meet the Financing Needs of African Nations.

Africa’s public debt has surged beyond 60% of GDP, putting us in a precarious position.

While stabilization is projected for 2024, interest payments now exceed 10% of government revenues in over 20 African countries, undermining our ability to invest in vital development initiatives.

Moreover, multilateral financing remains inadequate. The current international tax system allows multinational companies to shift profits to tax havens, depriving developing nations of essential resources.

This injustice complicates our efforts to fund development.

The Oppressors Who Love the Oppressed.

IT is bizarre. The International Monetary Fund, IMF, calling on the government to protect the poor from the impact of the fuel price hikes it engineers!

To add to its criminal thought process against the Nigerian people, the same IMF is telling the Tinubu administration that fuel prices in Nigeria are too low and need to be increased because it is allegedly selling below market price.

Candidates from Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar and Mauritius Contesting for AUC Chairperson's Position

The African Union Chairperson is an important position within the African Union. The Chairperson serves as the head of the (AU) African Union elected by the assembly of heads of states and government.

As the Africa Union stands at the crossroads and at the critical juncture, an effective leadership is essential for addressing the myriad challenges facing the African continent.

After several months of conscientious search for potential contestants to take over the African Union Commission chairperson's position, which expires next February 2025, four (4) candidates have emerged representing Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar and Mauritius.

Africa’s Economic Prospects
The New York Times recently had as its headlines: the future is African. I agree with New York Times. Africa can no longer be ignored. I fully expect Africa to be the pivotal continent in the world, given its economic prospects.

First, Africa’s population is projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 and by then one of four persons on earth will be African. With a rising middle class and projected consumer and business expenditures to reach $7 trillion, this is a formidable market of the future.
