(LUANDA MAGERE)
'Luanda' is Luo word for Rock. Luanda Magere was born in 1720 at Sidho in Kano, Muhoroni sub-county in kisumu county to Abonyo Omolo and mother Nyabera. His mother died during his birth and his grandmother take care of him. His father died in one of the numerous war with (Lang'o), their Nandi neighbors when he was a teenager. After that he was possessed of unearthly powers, his flesh was made of stones. Arrows, spears and cubs deflected his body. He was famously known for his capability to tear an entire Nandi army.
The Luo traditional enemy by that time we're Jo Lang'o (Kalenjins). The Lang'o were tired of being defeated by the Luo as a result the Nandi elders seat and came with a conclusion they will give Luanda Maryane to marry as a gesture of peace. Little did Lwanda no was that Nyar got(Maryane) was sent to spy on him and find out the source of his strength. Whenever Luanda was sick his elder wife would take care of him. One day the elder wife was away and Magere fell I'll, he called Maryane and instructed her to cut his shadow with a knife and instill some medicine. To her suprise she saw Luanda's shadow bleeding. That night she crept out of Lwanda's home and ran back to her people where she was received with joy.
She told them that Luanda's weakness was his shadow and that his body was made of stone. The Nandi knew that the Luo would not expect them to attack them because Luanda had married their daughter. They then attack the Luo who in return fought fiercely and Luanda killed so many Nandi warriors that they decided to retreat. As he was running, one of the Nandi warrior remember that Luanda strength was in his shadow. He stood on a hill and threw his spear at Luanda's shadow. Luanda Magere fell and died. His body turned to stone. The stone is there to date and is a tourist attraction point...
