The recently concluded UCI Road World Championships found us at Uzani Studios in Kigali, Rwanda for a different project , but we couldn’t resist capturing a historic first: the world’s biggest cycling event held on African soil.
African riders showed remarkable determination on one of the most demanding courses in recent memory. From the hosting nation Rwanda to Eritrea, athletes proved that as the world’s youngest continent, Africa holds immense potential to compete on the global stage.
For Team Kenya, Kigali was about more than results. While the riders did not finish among the top, their participation reflected a growing commitment to cycling. The gap to the world’s elite is still significant, but Kigali offered invaluable lessons in preparation, strategy, and resilience building blocks for future progress.
Closer to home, the Grand Nairobi Bike Race (GNBR), powered by Jubilee Insurance, takes place this weekend. This annual event has become a cornerstone for regional cycling, and it presents us with the perfect opportunity to support a sport that is steadily gaining traction in Kenya.
Let’s turn up, cheer on the riders, and contribute to nurturing a vibrant cycling culture in our country.
Thank you, Kigali — for the inspiration, the lessons, and the vision of what’s possible.
