OUR STATEMENT.

The Foreign Press Association, Africa (FPAA) strongly condemns the violent attack on our colleague, Lucia Blanco, and other international journalists by armed hired goons during a press briefing yesterday at the Kenya Human Rights Commission offices in Nairobi, Kenya. Media Council of Kenya

This reflects a disturbing and deliberate pattern in which violence is weaponized to intimidate and silence journalists in Kenya. The use of vigilantes to threaten or obstruct the press is criminal, unacceptable, it's a direct attack on press freedom and democracy. This must end.

We demand an expedited investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kenya, the National Police Service, Kenya, and full accountability for those who planned and executed this attack. In this volatile environment, we encourage event organizers to put in place adequate security measures to safeguard journalists in Kenya.
