A Kenyan Family in Deep Mourning After Tragic Shooting
An entire family is going into Christmas Festive with broken hearts after 43-year-old Frederick Kiprono, a Kenyan Uber driver living in Shreveport, Louisiana USA, was shot and killed on Wednesday night along Clyde Fant Parkway.
According to Shreveport police, Kiprono had two passengers in his vehicle when the shooting happened. One of them, 18-year-old Tatum Ashley, died on the scene. The second passenger is still hospitalized. Investigators have not released any further details about what triggered the attack.
Kiprono, who moved from Kenya to the U.S. searching for better opportunities, was the oldest of four siblings. His brother, William Songock, who studied at LSU Shreveport, had encouraged him to relocate from Illinois back in 2018. Today, he says he carries a heavy burden of guilt, describing Kiprono as a humble, hardworking man who simply went out to earn a living.
As the family begins the difficult journey of preparing to send his body back home, Kenyans both in the diaspora and in Kenya have come together in solidarity. Through their collective efforts, they have raised over KSh 1 million to support the repatriation of his remains and cover burial expenses.
This tragedy has shaken many, but it has also shown the strength of unity within the Kenyan community worldwide. May Frederick Kiprono rest in peace, and may healing find their families during this painful time.
