KooKusi's EP This Ability Merges Art & Science to Fight Disability Stigma

Ghanaian rapper and dedicated researcher, powerful 4-track EP, This Ability, is a crucial move to challenge disability stigma in our communities, blending his signature artistic storytelling with his background in science. Following past EPs that tackled mental health topics like inferiority complex ("5foot3," 2022) and fear and addiction, KooKusi continues his annual tradition of using music as a vehicle for scientific communication on crucial mental health subjects.

This Ability is an artistic biography inspired by the life of Ghanaian basketball champion and entrepreneur, Emmanuel "Clock" Amoako, who lives with anisomelia (a limb length difference). The four tracks weave together a complete narrative of resilience and triumph. It opens with an emotional choral version of his first encounter with Clock's story, transitions to a spoken-word tribute that addresses the battles beneath the victories, and includes an authentic excerpt from a "Full Circl" interview where "Clock" shares his journey in his own voice. The project then closes with a triumphant hip-hop version of the opening track, bringing the journey full circle.

The entire EP is a powerful call to action: it reframes disability as a narrative of power, celebrating the strength of people facing limitations. KooKusi’s mission is to dismantle stereotypes and encourage listeners to see challenges not as defining traits, but as opportunities for growth.

On our spotlight today we highlight Angela Wambui, popularly known as .kenyanqueen. Angela is a media personality, voiceover artist, model and humanitarian.

Angela boasts former Miss Kenya/USA Finalist and she is familiar voice on Kenyan radio, notably serving as a News Anchor at Capital FM. Her media journey began when she was presented with a radio opportunity, despite having zero experience, after a chance encounter with the late Chris Kirubi. She built her foundation in public speaking from the age of 13 through oratory competitions, which paved the way for her career in a space where she now "talks for a living".

Angela's career is marked by resilience and a blend of cultures, having transitioned from growing up in the US to living in Nairobi. This experience, which she describes as a steep learning curve in media, taught her the art of negotiation and helped her evolve into a sharp businesswoman. Beyond the newsroom, she is a multi-talented creative who leverages her extensive background in pageantry and her passion for fashion design, even making her own clothes. She exemplifies how being dynamic and possessing multiple skill sets leads to a longer shelf life in a competitive industry.

Her most profound achievement lies in her commitment to social impact through her foundations. She is a co-founder of Sister Speaks Global, an organization that creates platforms for women to network and find safe spaces, and the Heels for Pads Foundation. Heels for Pads tackles period poverty with an innovative barter trade system where people exchange high-heels for sanitary pads. This powerful initiative has grown to empower over 24,273 girls and women with period products, education, and mentorship across 19 counties in Kenya, restoring their dignity and confidence.

This October 11th, the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child under the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead.” It’s a powerful reminder that every girl holds the power to shape her future. In Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, Haven Crest Support Network is championing this message by focusing on girls' mental wellness, self-worth, and menstrual dignity. Yet, for millions of girls globally, the reality is a daily struggle to be heard, educated, and safe. Recent UN reports show that 133 million girls are out of school, and many face violence and inequality, challenges that are deeply felt by girls in Nigeria.

Behind these big numbers are real girls with real stories. For many, mental health is a silent battle, often dismissed as weakness. On top of that, they face "period poverty," where something as natural as a period brings shame and a lack of access to basic products. It's clear that the challenges for the Nigerian girl go far beyond just the classroom. With only five years left to achieve the 2030 Global Goals, no country is even halfway to meeting the goals that protect adolescent girls.

In the space between these struggles and hope, Haven Crest Support Network is taking action. The organization is turning this year’s theme from a slogan into reality by focusing on what has long been overlooked. Haven Crest is committed to ensuring that every girl’s mental wellness, sense of self-worth, and right to menstrual dignity are protected and celebrated.

is back with a new banger Nature ya Binadamu.

It is more than just a song ,it’s a powerful statement on the reality of human behavior, the struggles of modern society and the complexities of life as we know it. In this latest release, Khaligraph Jones taps into a raw, emotional space, confronting the pain, betrayal and contradictions that come with simply being human. He paints a vivid picture of the world we live in a world where people change, loyalties shift, and survival sometimes comes at the cost of empathy.

With his signature flow and lyrical depth, he challenges us to look beyond the surface, to reflect on who we are and how we treat each other. The song's message is loud and clear: humanity is broken, but it’s not beyond redemption.

Nature ya Binadamu is not just a track to listen to it’s one to absorb, reflect on, and share. It’s a reminder that in a world where everyone’s chasing clout, realness still matters.

Take a listen and comment your thoughts on the track.

Between 2018 and 2021, a revolution swept through Kenya’s music scene raw, loud, unapologetic and entirely owned by the youth. That revolution was Gengetone, and its heartbeat came from the streets. At the frontlines stood groups like Sailors Gang, and among them was Shalkido, a voice, a presence, and a force who helped define an entire cultural moment.

Shalkido, with his unique delivery, bold attitude and streetwise lyricism, helped take Sailors from the underground to the national stage. Together, they gave us tracks like Wamlambez, a song that became more than music; it was a chant, a slogan, a way of life for the youth. With follow-ups like Wainame, Pekejeng and the gospel-infused Jesu ni Mwathani, Sailors Gang proved that Gengetone wasn’t a fluke it was a movement. And Shalkido’s voice was right at the center of it.

In those peak years, Gengetone redefined how Kenyan music sounded, looked, and felt. Sheng was no longer just street slang, it became the language of pop culture. Dance moves were born in neighborhoods and went viral before mainstream media could catch up. Artists like Shalkido didn’t wait for permission from the industry they forced it to pay attention.

But like many great waves, the momentum slowed. Challenges came from censorship, internal group tensions and financial struggles. Shalkido, like many Gengetone pioneers, faced a hard reality after the spotlight faded. He transitioned into solo work, explored Kikuyu-inspired Mugithi sounds, and even sought help publicly to provide for his family. His vulnerability showed us the human side of the artist a young father, a creative hustler, and a man navigating the harsh terrain that often follows fame.

News of his passing has hit the Kenyan music scene hard. It’s more than the loss of an artist it’s the loss of a cultural icon, a representative of a generation that dared to be loud, free, and fearless. Shalkido’s contribution to Kenyan music will never be forgotten. He gave his voice to a sound that shook the system.

May he rest in eternal peace 🕊️

Today, October the 6th, is World Cerebral Palsy Day, a vital global movement to celebrate the millions of people living with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and their families. This day is about recognising the resilience, achievements, and unique contributions of the CP community worldwide.

Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability in childhood, affecting movement and posture. It's crucial to understand that every person with CP is different, and this day serves as a powerful platform to challenge stereotypes and advocate for a more inclusive and accessible world for all.

The theme for this year's World Cerebral Palsy Day is "Unique and United," which beautifully highlights the goal of this movement. "Unique" reminds us to celebrate each person's individuality, passions, and strengths that go beyond their disability. "United" emphasizes the power of the global CP community, including individuals, families, friends, and supporters, coming together to push for real, positive change. This unity is what drives action for better support systems, increased research, and equal opportunities for everyone with CP.

Ngori sana sees tackle the weight of everyday struggles.

The song is about facing life's toughest moments and feeling that intense pressure, that feeling of being pushed to the absolute limit. It speaks directly to the realities people face when things get rough. The track’s message of grit and determination is powerful. The chorus states "Huwanga bad, Ngori sana" referring to how life has challenges sometimes.

Ngori Sana is more than just a track, it transforms that feeling of struggle into pure motivation. It acknowledges the difficulty of daily challenges while supplying the energy needed to fight another day.

Check out Tipati, the brand new EP by , in collaboration with and .

Spanning five richly crafted tracks ,Match Made in Heaven, Mahanjumati, Pretoria, Hutaki Advice and Sheesha. It’s a cohesive body of work that brings together powerful storytelling, cultural rhythm, and sonic experimentation, all wrapped in an Afro-fusion sound.

Each track carries its own weight and emotion, but together they form a journey, one that speaks to love, identity, reflection, and the modern African experience.

Match Made in Heaven opens the project with a soulful yet upbeat tone, painting the picture of love that feels divinely orchestrated. It’s smooth, catchy, and immediately sets the tone.

Mahanjumati dives into more culturally rooted sounds, showcasing clever lyrical play and Swahili wordplay over a beat that fuses traditional percussion with modern flair.

Pretoria brings a continental bounce, bridging East and Southern Africa with rhythms that demand movement.

Hutaki Advice turns introspective, touching on stubbornness, ego and growth a cautionary tale wrapped in groove.

Sheesha closes things off on a more laid-back, vibe-heavy note, mellow yet rich, letting the listener ease out of the journey with a moment of cool reflection.

What makes Tipati stand out is not just its sound, but its synergy. You can feel the chemistry between Mutoriah, Frederick Mulla, and Umoja Sounds in every track. This is collaboration done right where each artist brings their essence, but no voice outshines the other. It’s layered, intentional, and full of replay value.
