Police Officers Killed, 8 Injured in Suspected Al-Shabaab Attack in Boni Forest
Five police officers have been killed and eight others wounded in a fierce gun battle with suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Boni Forest, Lamu County, authorities confirmed.
The attack occurred on Tuesday, April 29, around 4:00 PM, after a Special Operations Group (SOG) team on a pursuit patrol engaged a "large enemy force" in the Lehelo area of Janjana. The officers had been conducting a two-day operation to locate militants in the dense forest when the ambush happened.
The eight officers who sustained injuries of varying severity were airlifted to Manda before being transferred to Nairobi for further treatment.
Police reports indicate that the militants also suffered casualties, though the exact number remains unconfirmed. Security forces have intensified operations to track down the attackers, with additional reinforcements deployed to the area.
The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab militants along Kenya’s coastal and border regions. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as counterterrorism efforts continue.
Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
