Just a few highlights of the massive rain that the Nairobians experienced on Friday 6/03/2026.

Observation
1. A lots of construction on sewer lines. People are so addicted to renting over safety.
2. Failure to observe the 5 metres policy in riparian areas. Nairobians have built houses right on top of rivers and along river banks. It pained me yesterday to see a house fully immersed in water. What if parents were away and only the kids were left in the house?
3. Nairobi is still relying on colonial sewer lines that were used when settlements were still minimal. You can imagine that with the current urbanisation, we are still relying on old pipes. The population has swelled, and the system should as well.
4. We have so many concrete slab crossings or culvert crossings that business owners have put over the sewer lines along major roads, which disrupts the water flow and breaks onto the road, sweeping the tarmac and residential areas. Such structures should be approved before construction.
5. Careless dumping. As an environmental enthusiast, the sight of non-biodegradable materials, such as diapers, pads, and food wraps flowing on the road at Saika Bridge, shocked me. These things block the sewer lines and force water to look for alternative routes and burst into residential areas. Let's use biodegradable wraps and reusable pads and diapers. Remember the era of NAPKINS?
6. Nairobians should respect floods. Don't rush and act hero or heroine whose prowess is in water crossing. Wait until it is safe, then cross. Better get there late than being brought back dead.
7. Nairobi County should put in place proper measures to correct mistakes before long and heavy rains. The county should shun this REACTIVE culture and adopt a PROACTIVE approach.

JUNKS TO JEWELS

With the aid of fashioned blades, Nixton cut out small pieces of jerrycans to draw patterns such as flowers, fish models, and birds.
The plastic parts that fall off in the course of the forging process are later collected and weighed before being sold to recycling companies to make other products. It is a process whose end goal is environmental sustainability. No single plastic is combusted or unsustainably discarded.

Iron sheet settlements erected in gulleyed land. Some houses are constructed on trenches. This land has been largely excavated. The stagnating rainwater has become a breeding site for mosquitoes with a smelly river flowing just across. This has posed a health hazard. Matopeni area, Kayole.

Upon collapsing in his daughter's presence during the routine morning walk in India's health facility, the daughter was shaken. Fast forward, Raila is confirmed dead, and Winnie was left with one assignment: to onboard and safely bring home the remaining part of Baba that masses could resonate with, the Fedora Hat.

Winnie Odinga has safely handed over Raila's Fedora hat to Ida Odinga. This is the memory that was left after he succumbed.
