SOON YOU’RE GOING TO START HEARING A LOT ABOUT REZA PAHLAVI BECOMING THE NEXT IRANIAN LEADER.
Former CIA officer John Kiriakou provides a scathing critique of Reza Pahlavi, describing him as an ineffective and irrelevant figure in Iranian politics. According to Kiriakou, “Reza Pahlavi is the son of the Shah of Iran who was thrown out of Iran in early 1979 by the Ayatollah Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution. He has been in exile ever since, mostly in the United States. He has no following in Iran. He has no following in the Iranian opposition. He has no following in the Iranian diaspora. The only support he has is from the CIA and Mossad. They have built him up over the years as this sort of figurehead that they can trot out whenever they need him.”
Kiriakou emphasizes Pahlavi’s lack of genuine influence, stating, “I’m certain, 100% sure that Mossad and CIA built him up during his time in exile in the United States. Given his funding and the media push, does he fit the profile of a CIA/Mossad asset being positioned for a soft coup? Yes, he does. He is not a player in any Iranian circles at all. He is not taken seriously by Iranians. He is seen as a joke, as a tool of the West.”
Further dismissing Pahlavi’s potential role, Kiriakou asserts, “So, is he a Mossad asset? You bet he’s a Mossad asset. Mossad is saying the same thing about him. The Israelis and the Americans see him as somebody who could potentially be put into place if there’s ever a change in government. But the reality is, he’s got no support inside the country.
The opposition doesn’t want him. The people don’t want him. He’s just this sad, deluded figure who’s been propped up by foreign intelligence services.”
In conclusion, Kiriakou argues that Pahlavi has no viable path to leadership: “If the regime falls, it’s not going to be Pahlavi who steps in. It’ll be somebody from inside, somebody with actual legitimacy. Pahlavi missed the boat a long time ago. He’s irrelevant except to the CIA and Mossad.
