Raila Odinga’s political analogy of "Canaan" is a famous metaphor he used to describe a prosperous, corruption-free, and equitable Kenya. Portraying himself as a modern-day "Joshua," his overarching political statements on Canaan center around the following key pillars:
The Promised Land of Plenty
He defined Canaan as a "land of milk and honey" and a place where no one would suffer or cry. He frequently linked this to the vision in the Kenyan National Anthem, which prays that "plenty be found within our borders."
A Journey Through Adversity
He likened previous election cycles and political struggles to the biblical Israelites' journey, often stating that his supporters had crossed the "River Jordan" and were on the verge of reaching the promised land.
National Reconciliation
Ahead of the 2022 elections, he emphasized that Kenyans cannot enter Canaan as a divided, bitter nation. He pledged that his leadership would focus on reconciliation, promising no political revenge.
