I don't understand the mentality of those who say that Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the Champions League in 2021.
How so?
He scored only one goal, and had zero assists in 12 Matches at that season's Champions League. Yes, that goal at the final was his only goal.
Scoring the goal in the final doesn't mean he gave them the Champions League.
There were many other important players in that winning squad. Ngolo Kante. Eduard Mendy. Olivier Giroud. Jorginho. Etc!
Havertz is not a bad player, but he actually struggled at Chelsea. Statistically speaking, he made 130 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, across the Premier League, and Cup Competitions, including the Champions League, EFL, Club World Cup, and Super Cup and scored a total of 31 goals and 8 assists in all competitions, in three seasons. Haba. That's a very poor return for a big money buy that played mostly as a Striker.
Swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League hasn't quite worked for him, even though his Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup medals, are soothingly comforting.
Arsenal should hope that they're able to ignite the prolific Havertz that Chelsea bargained for. 65 million pounds is a lot of money for a club who pride themselves on modest transfer fees, to spend on a Player, and he fails to deliver.
I wish him well though. I sincerely do.
