Zitani Dalienst Ya Ntesa emerges as yet another formidable figure within the esteemed ranks of TPOk Jazz, showcasing his multifaceted talents as both a vocalist and composer.
Notably, he contributed to the creation and performance of several memorable hits, including the beloved tracks "Bina na Ngai na respect🎶" and "Mamie Zou🎶."
Prior to his tenure with Ok Jazz beginning in 1976, Dalienst honed his skills with Vox Africa before transitioning to the Festival de Macquisards. This period saw him collaborating with a diverse range of musical talents, including luminaries like Michelino, Sam Mangwana, Jerry, Dizzy, and Matalanza, underscoring the vibrant creative atmosphere of the Festival.
Rumors has it that Franco had a hand in dismantling the Festival de Macquisards, that was then perceived as a threat to his own musical supremacy.
Within TPOk Jazz, Dalienst's contributions were pivotal, providing a harmonious complement to vocalists such as Josky and Mangwana. His versatile voice lent itself seamlessly to both lead and supporting roles, evident in tracks like "Zala Sportiff🎶" and "Bureau de Couerr🎶."
Tragically, Dalienst's life was cut short by a battle with brain cancer in 1996, leaving behind a lasting legacy .

In March 1970, Bavon Marie Marie released Maseke Ya Meme, an album that would become his last. Released under Réveillon Editions, the 33 RPM record featured seven songs, including Maseke Ya Meme, Bilamba Mbongo Ya Nani, Nalimbisa Bijou, and Nadendela Mibali.

The album’s red cover featured a seven-pointed star bearing Bavon’s name, alongside the words “Phonogram presents Bavon Marie Marie and the Negro Succès Orchestra.” But was there a deeper story behind the album, especially considering what happened just months later?

Some of the songs have been interpreted as reflecting the troubled state of Bavon’s love life. At the time, rumours circulated that his girlfriend was involved with other men, including Youlou Mabiala, Ndombé Opetum and footballer Jean Kembo. Bavon reportedly died in a car accident on August 5, 1970, following an argument with his girlfriend while driving under the influence of alcohol. His elder brother, Franco Luambo, was also blamed by some for providing him with the car.

Born on May 27, 1944, Bavon was a gifted guitarist and songwriter who learned to play the guitar from José Kayenge. He later played with Jamel and Cobantou before joining Negro Succès in 1964, at Franco’s insistence. He remained with the orchestra until his untimely death at just 26 years old.

One song that continues to attract attention is Batela Mwana. Some listeners believe its lyrics carry a deeper message about Bavon’s life and tragic end.

Was Maseke Ya Meme simply another album, or did Bavon unknowingly leave behind clues to the tragedy that would end his life? Could Batela Mwana have been his way of expressing something he could not say openly?

Alicios Theluji’s journey is a story of courage, determination, and talent.
After fleeing the Congo War with her family in 1996, she found a new home in Nairobi, Kenya, where she developed her musical talent and mastered Swahili and Sheng. She later built a music career with hits like “Mpita Njia,” “Posa ya Bolingo,” “Ligi Kali,” and her latest release, “Nikupe Love.”

Beyond music, Alicios pursued her education in Europe, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s in Business Management in Sweden.

Now back on the music scene with fresh releases and live performances, including her appearance at the celebrations, Alicios continues to prove that talent and ambition can go hand in hand.

Dally Kimoko began his musical journey at just 13 with Les Bébés in the late 1960s. Nearly six decades later, his guitar melodies remain an important part of Soukous history.

From Kamale and Sam Mangwana’s African All Stars to Abeti Masikini, Kanda Bongo Man and Aurlus Mabélé’s Loketo, Dally worked with some of the biggest names in African music. His guitar shines in hits like Je suis fâché, Wallow, Monie and Embargo.

He also co-founded Soukous Stars and contributed his exceptional guitar skills to hundreds of recordings alongside legends such as Mbilia Bel, Pépé Kallé and Madilu System.

His melodies have entertained generations, yet his name deserves even greater recognition.

Throughout his career, Tabu Ley Rochereau wrote about 3,000 songs and produced nearly 250 recordings.

Beyond music, he faced political struggles under Mobutu’s regime, forcing him into exile in France and later the United States. His 1990 recording Trop, C’est Trop was banned for being considered subversive.

It was only after Mobutu’s regime was overthrown in 1997 that Tabu Ley returned to Kinshasa and joined the government of Laurent-Désiré Kabila. He later served as Vice-Governor of Kinshasa and Minister of Culture.

Upon his death in 2013, his contribution to music and public service was honoured with a state funeral.
