Jambo Mwalimu, here's the 2025–2029 Teachers' Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA):
1. Salary Increment
Teachers to receive up to 29.5% salary increment across job groups.
Aims to narrow the wage gap between the highest and lowest-paid teachers.
First phase effective from 1 July 2025.
KSh 8.4 billion allocated for salaries, allowances, pensions, and deductions.
2. Allowances
Baggage allowance revised upward (varies by job group).
All other allowances remain unchanged.
3. Recruitment of Additional Teachers
KSh 2.4 billion allocated for recruitment in FY 2025/26.
Builds on the 76,000 teachers hired under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
4. Promotion of Teachers
KSh 1 billion allocated for promotions across all job cadres.
Supports career growth, motivation, and performance rewards.
5. Teacher Training & Re-tooling
KSh 950 million allocated for training senior school teachers.
Prepares them for new curriculum delivery and evolving learning needs.
6. Retirement Benefits
Teachers dismissed from service will now receive pension benefits.
Addresses long-standing concerns over loss of retirement benefits due to disciplinary exits.
7. Job Evaluation & Career Review
TSC to conduct job evaluation in FY 2025/26.
Aims to reassess teaching roles and update Career Progression Guidelines with union input.
8. Support for Lactating Teachers
Female teachers granted 2 hours daily for two months post-birth to breastfeed.
Promotes health and work-life balance.
9. Total Cost
Estimated at KSh 33.75 billion over 4 years.
Covers salary increases, allowances, pension contributions, recruitment, promotions, and training.
This CBA reflects the government's dedication to enhancing teacher welfare, motivation, and productivity, while reinforcing the goal of quality and equitable education for all.
