*I AM DONE WITH THE CHURCH!*
âYes, you heard me rightâIâm done with the church. I wonât set foot in any church again!â Nakhumicha declared firmly, locking eyes with Pastor Donald to show she was serious and clear-headed.
Pastor Donald, seated calmly at his desk, looked at her silently for a moment. Then, lowering his gaze to his open Bible, he read quietly for about 30 seconds before looking back up. âThatâs alright,â he said gently. âBut may I ask why?â
âThe church is full of hypocritesâwolves in sheepâs clothing,â she replied. âVicars, vergers, and congregants often do the exact opposite of what the Bible teaches. I see it on TV every day, and I see it here too. People are glued to their phones during sermons, gossiping instead of praying. Some watch others pray and then gossip about them afterward. Iâm done, Pastor!â She raised her hand toward the door, signaling her resolve.
Pastor Donald smiled warmly. âI understand, my daughter. But before you leave, I have one request. Next Sunday, during prayer and sermon, light a candle and walk through all the church pathways twice. Keep the candle lit. Can you do that?â
Nakhumicha nodded.
The following Sabbath, she did as asked. After the service, they met again. âHow many people did you see distracted on their phones or not praying?â Pastor Donald asked.
âNone,â she said. âI was focused on keeping the candle lit. The open windows and doors made it hard, but I stayed focused.â
Pastor Donald smiled. âDespite the distractions, you kept the candle burning because you never lost focus. Thatâs how your relationship with Christ should beâunwavering and undistracted. Donât let othersâ behavior affect your faith. Stay focused on Christ, because thatâs what truly matters.â
Today, Nakhumicha still serves faithfully in the same church.
Church hatutoki! Hallelujah! đ
