As I was going through the daily posts, I just came across a post by one celebrity quoting that building a home is your greatest investment but I should remind you people from an economic point of view, owning a home is not an investment but a liability.
An investment is the process of investing money to earn profit. When you build a house, you are injecting money that will never generate any income but will only incur liabilities.
You need to keep the home clean and beautiful, so you need to incur cost. You need electricity and water, so you incur another cost. You need to renovate it from time to time so you incur another cost.

The difference between a salary income and a business income is that you pay tax from your salary before deducting any expense whereas in business income, you pay tax on what is left after deducting the expenses.
A salary is a reward to an employee after working hard for the owner of a business whereas business income is a reward from the hard work of an employee to the owner of a business.
