WHAT IS BALLON D'OR
The Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball) is one of the most prestigious individual awards in football. Here’s how it is given and announced:
1. Nomination of Players
Each year, France Football (the award’s organizer) releases a shortlist of nominated players (usually about 30).
These players are selected based on their performance for club and country in the previous season/year.
2. Voting Process
A panel of international journalists (one representative per country) votes.
Each journalist chooses their top 5 players, ranking them from 1st to 5th.
Points are awarded: 1st place = 6 points, 2nd = 4 points, 3rd = 3 points, 4th = 2 points, 5th = 1 point.
Votes are tallied to determine the winner.
3. Announcement Ceremony
A gala ceremony is held (usually in Paris).
The rankings are revealed starting from the lower positions, building suspense until the top 3.
Finally, the winner’s name is announced live on stage.
4. Award Presentation
The winner is invited on stage, presented with the golden ball trophy, and gives a speech.
Afterward, photos, interviews, and celebrations follow.
👉 So, the Ballon d’Or is first decided by secret voting, then officially announced during a ceremony, and finally presented with the trophy.
