TEACHERS WHY NOT OPEN YOUR OWN PRESCHOOL

Instead of waiting to be deployed from town to a village , where you will be drawing water from a well to bath cold water at 05 and teaching students without a board or chalk AND ! sometimes not getting paid on time ! Why not take a chance on yourself ? Try starting a preschool where you will teach toddlers how to count and the alphabet , whilst earning a living , without a boss , sipping hot cocoa with a big john cena bun with butter. Here are my thoughts.

LOCATION – Look for a place that is remote from any preschool but has a small community of 200 to 300 families . Rent a house there for say 8,500. Make sure the house has 3 bedrooms , a kitchen and sitting room . Extra rooms like dining or small living room will be extra . As per plan you will allocate 13 students for each teacher to manage and teach .

REVENUE – Each student will pay minimum of K1000 per month , which can even be 3000 per term . If you think 1000 is a lot then you are looking at the wrong neighbourhood . Pick a neighbourhood that eats cornflakes . to have cocoa melon playing in all rooms and lots of fan toys and crayons you will need that 1000 per pupil . so you will charge 1000 or more BY LAW of the DJCVD Business Plan . Listen a preschool is also like a productive baby sitting arrangement for working mothers , instead of the child being indoors the whole day with the maid , the child can be at school learning and socialising .

SALARIES – All 5 teachers will draw a salary of 5000 net and you as the owner you will get 10,000 and the rest will be kept for business operations . Pick people capable and dedicated like you if you want the busness to be a success . You will have 2 general workers getting 1400 ( One a handy man and the other a general cleaner ) These people will ensure hygiene is maintained and sometimes changing diapers for the babies so you need them . Then in the night you need a security guard to ensure your property is not stolen

If you have noticed I have made each room what they call a profit centre . That way you can see the profit per room

BREAK EVEN – The minimum number of pupils you need to make this work is 9 pupils . Ninshi you will still get paid a salary and pay bills . Also you can also only commission a room if you have at least 9 pupils in a room so that you don’t make a loss .

START UP COSTS - Ofcouse you need to pay the landlord 3 months rent , then you need to buy small chairs and desks and a few other things . You need to have at least 2 months handy before hiring teachers because you don’t want pressure the first 2 months . You will need theme painting and branding of your school . I estimated about a 100,000 to get this started and this money will come back the same month you start and forever profits .

*Teachers handbook 2024*

*1. On attendance to duty:*
Let us strive to avail ourselves for duty as expected. When you are not able to make it to school, for whatever reason, kindly make it official. Don't rely on your good personal relationship with your principal. They sometimes change, without a warning.

*2. On professional documents:*
It is advisable that we have these documents in place, not because some officer from TSC is moving around, but because it is our job.

*3. On Jeremiah waters:*
Do it in moderation. Don't allow alcohol to control your daily schedule. If you can't control alcohol, then you better quit this industry, now. Better still, be man enough to admit that you require rehabilitation services. Apart from the dysfunctional families out there, it is this *excessive consumption of alcohol* that is responsible for many fatal health complications among our colleagues.

*4. On immoral behavior:*
This one will sink you, irregardless of your "perceived innocence". Keep off school girls (and boys), at whatever cost. What that girl submits before a disciplinary panel is considered gospel truth. In any case, TSC already has a formed mind about you, even before they listen to your case. Yes, you will go home for sure.

*5. On personal finances:*
Think about your retirement date(it is indicated on the payslip) immediately you take up this job. Retirement is not an accident, it is something you can visualize. *Invest in a sacco, the benefits outweigh the risks, any time.* Rushing for bank loans even without a clear plan of what you intend to do with such large amount of money is a sure way of messing up your financial situation so early in your career. You might need a lot of effort to stabilize in future.

*6. On social capital:*
It is prudent to invest in your social circles. Make friends, as many as you can. Some will be genuine, others will be fake, they are both friends. No one is going to make it in life without support from colleagues and friends. Accept to learn new things in life, even if those sharing such info are your juniors.

*7. On career goals:*
Have some ambitions in this profession. Any man without ambition is as good as dead. As ambitious as you maybe, don't compete colleagues. *Life is in phases, men are in sizes.* Move at your speed, but all the same, continue moving.

*8. On family:*
You need your family to achieve anything out there. These are the only people whose support is always unconditional. Support your family members to achieve their goals too. This could be the most motivating thing that you will need, to achieve your own goals.

*9. On side hustles:*
Everyone will find something to do out there to supplement their incomes. In all fairness, don't allow your side hustles to compromise your service delivery at your work place. As you pursue this, be wary of fraudsters waiting to make a kill from your heard earned money. Colleagues have lost money in business ventures that looked so profitable from the onset. Consult. You lose nothing by consulting around.

*10. On your health:*
This is the most important aspect of our life, it will affect everything else in our career. Check on what you eat/drink. Avoid buying drugs across the counter without medical prescription. Don't be too busy to go to hospital. What you think is an ordinary headache can turn out to be something else, with time. You are a teacher yourself, not a medical practitioner (even if you are the best teacher of Chemistry around). Go for relevant tests as early as now especially for the most common killer diseases; HIV, cancer, TB etc. Most importantly, check on the mental health of your colleagues and your loved ones. *Mental health is a real issue out here.* That colleague who is behaving strangely requires help. Reach out to them. And most importantly, find some time to thank God for this gift of life. Go to church(or mosque). *Without God, you will surely achieve nothing.*

If you are a parent of a Junior school, then you have something to worry about more so as a parent to grade eight learners.
The learning areas have been condensed to nine from 14 with the following being studied
English, Kiswahili, Mathematics,CRE, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Creative Arts and PE, Agriculture and Nutrition and lastly Pretechnical Studies.
My concern is, are the learning areas being attended to effectively and if so who supervises the implementation?
Are the implementors motivated to do that work , and if not for how long are we going to leave these poor learners in the hands of demotivated lots?
My worry is that as we speak we don't have any copy of a Agriculture and Nutrition, Creative Arts and PE neither do we have Pretechnical Studies and the only thing at the implementors ' disposal is the CD which requires a lot of sensitisation and induction on the use and application but who will do that!
Another elephant in this stage is the swollen numbers of consumers,l mean learners who need to be attended to, take a typical example of over 400 hundred learners being taught mathematics, English and Kiswahili by an average of 2 teachers. For heavens sake how can these guys do any meaningful formative evaluation ,is it really possible and practical? Your guess is as good as mine! Mostly such a big number of learners is taught through the archaic method of learning known as lecture method which is mostly used at the highest level of learning,l mean in the universities.
Back to intergrated Science , the learning area that is associated with future Scientists in the field of medicine both in fauna and flora, engineering and such like lucrative careers, Integrated Science is being equated to other social sciences disciplines and yet it should be more of a practical than theory.
Looking at the curriculum design once more, l realize that content in this stage is that of secondary curriculum brought to primary simply because we didn't have the right people at the formulation stage.Imagine introducing use of calculators and mathematical tables at this stage and to make the matters worse, not even an eighth of the learners are in the possession of these resources so what do the demotivated cohort do, they Passover just like it was during the time of Moses.
The language department,l mean English and Kiswahili are equally affected, the content specifically in Kiswahili like 'uchanganuzi Wa sentensi' has always shown our form 4s dust .l wonder how our grades' classes will manage that.I haven't mentioned set books which are not even known to the learners and yet they are compulsory.
In conclusion,l call upon the relevant stakeholders including parents, to urgently have a dialogue on how to save these innocent minds whose future is being destroyed .

Men , listen here and listen very carefully
1. Pay school fees
2. Attend all Academic clinics
3. Attend all parents meetings
4. Make impromptu visits to the school
5. Dropping and picking kids from school is not your responsibility
6. Moving around supermarkets and Bata shops fitting shoes is not your responsibilities
7. All receipts and all report books belong to men
8. Any communication to and from school should be through your mobile phone
9. Whether the child is the most favorite or is named after your mum, remember the teacher is always right.
10. If you ever side with your kid in the presence of teachers you have started planting a bad seed that you will harvest later
11. Even where the teacher might have disagreed with your kid, just know , ignore and discuss with the teacher. Never show any support to that kid in case of a disciplinary action
12. A teacher stays with your kids for 10 active hrs . He knows the real character of your kid than you do.
13. A school is a school. A school is an institution. An institution has rules and regulations. If you can't abide by them just go and start your own school.
14. Never discuss anything about teachers with your kids. A teacher is a teacher. Let the teacher not be ridiculed at home in your house.
15. We know that teachers overcharge and create avenues for getting extra money from parents but don't discuss that with your kids. Remain silent.
16. And to you teachers , this habit of bribing a few parents to propose extra fees and other contributions should stop. We know that you place a few parents strategically in a hall and pretend that you are hearing the proposals for the first time when in deed you are the authors.
17. And to those parents who propose that parents need to contribute 3,000 to motivate teachers and 1000 for sausages you need to drop that habit. Not all students want sausages.

Historia yangu itaandikwa mahali.🙏
