This year’s theme highlights Kenya’s strides in innovation and sustainability. Within the Energy and Petroleum sector, we celebrate the milestones achieved in enhancing energy access, promoting clean energy solutions, and driving economic growth.

His Excellency the President highlighted this fact in his speech during the swearing of the Deputy President. Congratulations to KPLC, KENGEN and REREC for their competence and excellent management of public investments in the energy sector which helps government sustain economic growth. The energy sector led by Hon Opiyo Wandayi remains socially responsible and accountable because profitability leads to improved public sector capacity resulting in reinvestment of money realized in improving and expanding the grid thus enhancing universal access while improving governance which is essential if private businesses are to invest, expand and prosper and create employment.

WANDAYI PROMISES TO WORK FOR ALL KENYANS

Sidindi 16 Aug 2024: Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary returned to his Ugunja home-turf for the first time today since his appointment into Cabinet and pledged to work hard to deliver on his mandate.

He said that he will help President William Ruto deliver on his agenda and that he will not discriminate against any region in his quest to fulfil his constitutional obligation as a Cabinet Secretary.

“I will serve all Kenyans, that is the requirement in law”, he said. He told the gathering at Sidindi that he was upto the task and that he will work tirelessly to ensure every corner of the country is connected with electricity.

“We have to ensure all Kenyans have electricity connected in their homes”, he said.

He said time had come when Luo Nyanza was part of government and that this should serve as the beginning of this new phenomenon. “Never again shall the Luo Nyanza region be left out of government. We pay taxes and have the right to serve in government”, he said.
He thanked President Ruto for appointing into his cabinet and promised to help him deliver. “I also want to thank my Party Leader Hon. Raila Odinga for proposing my name and those of my other colleagues in ODM to serve in President Ruto’s administration”, he said.

The National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments Chaired by Speaker, the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula. The Committee continues to vet CS Nominees for several Cabinet Positions.

The Committee is currently engaging Hon. Opiyo Wandayi who has been proposed to take leadership at the helm of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. He has been serving the National Assembly in the capacity of the Leader of Minority Party.

Rising on a point of order in the plennary early this morning, Minority Leader Hon Opiyo Wandayi strongly protests the abduction of Gabriel Oguda in the middle of the night by people believed to be state agents. Oguda, a policy analyst at the Office of the Minority Leader, a Daily Nation columnist and social media satirist, was violently kidnapped in his family home at 2.30am by hooded officers in two unmarked vehicles.
