Tuesday evening marked a defining milestone for Kenya's recorded music industry as we officially unveiled RIKE as Kenya's National Agency for the administration of International Standard Recording Codes (ISRCs) at Pax Manor.
This designation marks a significant step towards strengthening the infrastructure that supports record producers by enhancing transparency, improving royalty collection, and positioning Kenya's recorded music industry more competitively within the global music economy.
We were honoured to welcome IFPI Chief Executive Officer Victoria Oakley (née Dean), who officially led the unveiling. Her presence marked the importance of the occasion and reflected IFPI's continued confidence in RIKE and the work we are doing.
We extend our sincere gratitude to IFPI Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa Angela Ndambuki and the Regional Licensing and Policy Lead Otieno Adipo Sidang' for their unwavering commitment and support, which have been instrumental in RIKE's growth and in achieving this important milestone.
Our appreciation also goes to Madam Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary, State Department for Trade; Hon. Wanyama, Chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture; and Hon. John Kiarie, Chairperson of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation, who graced the occasion. Their presence and commitment to working alongside RIKE reflect the growing recognition of the creative economy as a key driver of national development.
We are equally grateful to the leadership of the RIKE Board, Chairman Eric Musyoka and Directors Manusha Sarawan, Sean Watson, Marc Latilla, Suzanne Gachukia, Japheth Kasanga, John Katana, and Bien Baraza, as well as National Coordinator Angela Mwandanda, for their dedication and collective efforts in guiding RIKE's journey and bringing us to this important milestone.
