Former Cabinet Assistant Secretary and former Tharaka Member of Parliament, Hon. Mburi Mwiru, has called on leaders in Tharaka Constituency, particularly the area MP, to prioritize the establishment of an education kitty. According to Hon. Mwiru, such an initiative would play a pivotal role in combating poverty and addressing the challenges faced by students unable to afford school fees. He emphasized that access to education is a key factor in uplifting communities and fostering long-term development.
Hon. Mwiru pointed out that a significant number of students in the region fail to transition to tertiary education due to financial constraints. He urged local leaders to work together in mobilizing resources to ensure that no student is left behind in their educational journey. The proposed education kitty, he explained, would help bridge the gap and enable bright but disadvantaged learners to pursue their dreams.
In addition to advocating for financial support for education, Hon. Mwiru highlighted the importance of embracing technical and vocational training. He encouraged students who may not have qualified for university admission to consider enrolling in technical institutes. He noted that these institutions offer practical courses that equip learners with skills relevant to the job market and entrepreneurship.
Technical education, Hon. Mwiru added, is a powerful tool for economic empowerment and poverty eradication. He urged the community to shift their mindset and recognize the value of technical courses in creating a self-reliant society. By focusing on skill development, the youth can secure sustainable livelihoods and contribute positively to the region's growth.
Hon. Mburi Mwiru called on stakeholders, including the county government, development partners, and well-wishers, to support initiatives aimed at enhancing access to education in Tharaka. He reiterated his commitment to championing education as a means of transforming lives and breaking the cycle of poverty.
