I know of a driver and conductor who registered a Paybill number that terminates at their bank account. It’s what customers use to pay bus fares. Each day, they receive KSh 15,000–20,000 deposited into the account, which they withdraw in the evening to cover fuel, meet the daily target for the owner, and save a small amount. Within a year, they had built good savings and an impressive bank statement, which they used to secure a loan for a brand-new bus. The daily target of KSh 9,000 that they previously gave to the owner now goes toward loan repayment. In two years, they’ll have fully paid off the loan.

A friend in a Sacco doesn’t have a guarantor. she borrows her own savings at an intrest instead of withdrawing 😷

A farmer sells 1,000 kg of sugarcane for KSh. 6,000 and has to wait 18 months for payment. The refined sugar retails at KSh. 130,000 (or KSh. 130 per kg). 🤔

Namibia is almost two Times the size of Kenya… its population is the same as that of Kiambu county… if the land in Namibia was divided equally among its citizen… each would get 68 acres… if you had a family of 5… 68x5=340 acres is what your family would own same size as the whole of Kibera

There’s a farmer in Kajiado who bought one beehive for KSh 7,500. His goal was to have 200 hives, which would have cost 200x7500=1.5 million.
To lower the cost, he found a carpenter, reverse-engineered the one hive he had already bought, replicated the design, and built to the same standards. His cost per hive dropped from 7,500 to a mere ksh.700 .
With a budget of 140,000, he was able to construct 200 hives, which he’s targeting to harvest 6,000 kg per year—translating to 6,000 × 1,000 = 6 million.
Best thing about honey is that… it doesn’t have an expiry date and cost of production is way less

There’s a certain teachers’ SACCO that once had over 100,000 members — teachers from every corner of the country who joined with one goal: to save and invest their hard-earned money for a better tomorrow.
They believed in the dream hook, line, and sinker — trusting that their SACCO would safeguard their future and give them financial freedom.
But then, mismanagement kicked in. Bad loans piled up, and soon the SACCO’s outstanding loans had ballooned to over KSh 13 billion — against members’ deposits of just KSh 6 billion. In short, members’ savings were deep in the red.
What followed was nothing short of a tragic comedy of fraud: fictitious dividend payments worth KSh 7.2 billion, loans totaling KSh 7 billion disbursed to ghost members, unrecorded cash withdrawals from banks, and unauthorized transfers to unapproved investments. There were even KSh 490 million in non-performing loans handed to employees.
When the dust settled, members had lost more than KSh 15 billion. One teacher friend of mine nearly lost his mind after losing KSh 500,000 in savings — money he had faithfully put aside for years

You save money in a SACCO to earn about 10% in dividends, but you can never really get that money back since it counts as share capital unless you find some one whom you can transfer these shares to in exchange they give you cash. On the other hand, if you save the same amount in a Money Market Fund (MMF), you earn a similar interest rate and can access your money anytime.
In a SACCO, you also need two people to join as your guarantors — basically, they’re lending you their savings (plus yours) as security. My question is: if these two people can already lend me the same amount directly, why should I join a SACCO that will just take me in circles when I need my money back? 🤔.
One mistake you can ever make is joining a Sacco alone…

If you have a small front-wheel-drive car and want to convert it into a hybrid, you could consider installing a rear differential with an integrated electric motor. On the highway, you can switch on the motor to assist the petrol engine. The battery can be charged by the engine through the alternator. With this setup, you might achieve fuel efficiency of around 40–60 km per litre. 😃
