Joshua 6:1-3
[1]Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
Basi Yeriko ulikuwa umefungwa kabisa kwa sababu ya wana wa Israeli; hapana mtu aliyetoka wala hapana mtu aliyeingia.
[2]And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
BWANA akamwambia Yoshua, Tazama, nimeutia Yeriko katika mkono wako, na mfalme wake, na mashujaa wake.
[3]And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
Nanyi mtauzunguka mji huu, watu wote wa vita, mkiuzunguka mji mara moja. Fanya hivi siku sita.

Walakini utauwa pamoja na kuridhika ni faida kubwa.
[7]For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
Kwa maana hatukuja na kitu duniani, tena hatuwezi kutoka na kitu;
[8]And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
ila tukiwa na chakula na nguo tutaridhika na vitu hivyo.
[9]But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Lakini hao watakao kuwa na mali huanguka katika majaribu na tanzi, na tamaa nyingi zisizo na maana, zenye kudhuru, ziwatosazo wanadamu katika upotevu na uharibifu.

English Swahili. Judges 9:8-9
[8]The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
Siku moja miti ilitoka ili kuutia mmoja mafuta uwe mfalme juu yao; ikauambia mti mzeituni, Tawala wewe juu yetu.
[9]But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Lakini huo mzeituni ukaiambia, Je! Niache mafuta yangu, ambayo kwangu mimi watu wamheshimu Mungu na wanadamu, ili niende nikayonge-yonge juu ya miti?

[8]The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
Siku moja miti ilitoka ili kuutia mmoja mafuta uwe mfalme juu yao; ikauambia mti mzeituni, Tawala wewe juu yetu.
[9]But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Lakini huo mzeituni ukaiambia, Je! Niache mafuta yangu, ambayo kwangu mimi watu wamheshimu Mungu na wanadamu, ili niende nikayonge-yonge juu ya miti?
[10]And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.
Kisha miti ikauambia mtini, Njoo wewe, utawale juu yetu.
[11]But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Lakini huo mtini ukaiambia, Je! Niuache utamu wangu, na matunda yangu mazuri, niende nikayonge-yonge juu ya miti?
[13]And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
Huo mzabibu nao ukaiambia, Je! Niiache divai yangu, ambayo humfurahisha Mungu na wanadamu, ili niende nikayonge-yonge juu ya miti?
