Under the riveting Kargi scorching sun, Marsabit County
sits in the harsh and reality of life.

Scrolling through the life history of this gem, Marsabit County is separated by hostile politics, one would ever wonder if indeed this is part of Kenyan historical and tourist sites.

Tourism is a social, cultural and economic phenomenon which entails the movement of people to countries or places outside their usual environment for personal or business/professional purposes.

A well attractive flap-wing of tourist destination and economic growth, Marsabit is yet to Develop a Single Integrated Ecosystem-Based Natural Resource Conservation Policy To Promote Wildlife Conservation And Sustainability for its revenue resource mobilization/Collection through the Establishment of Adventure, Wildife, Cultural and Eco-tourism.

Marsabit is one of the fourty seven counties in Kenya with a population of 459,785.

The name is possibly from the Amharic word ማርሳቤት marsa bet, meaning 'Marsa's home/house', and is believed to have been named after a farmer named 'Marsa' (an ethnic Burji) who was brought to Marsabit from Mega (in Ethiopia) by the Consul to assist in consolidation of farming and permanent settlement on the slope.

Covering a surface area of 66,923.1 square kilometres Marsabit is the second largest county in Kenya. Its capital is Marsabit and its largest town Moyale

Marsabit County, situated along the northern border of Ethiopia, is home to 14 distinct ethnic communities: Borana, Gabbra, Rendille, Garreh, Burji, Daasanach, Somali, Sakuye, Turkana, Ameru, Samburu, Konso, Wayyu, and Elmolo.

The Chalbi Desert is a small desert in northern Kenya near the border with Ethiopia. It is east of Lake Turkana and contains North Horr

The Chalbi Desert is a real gem, it is located in Marsabit County, east of the famous Lake Turkana (the largest desert lake in Kenya), spreading to the Ethiopian border. Covering an area of 100.000 kilometer square, the Chalbi Desert is one of the hottest and arid places in Kenya.

Kenya currently has two known deserts: the Chalbi Desert and the Nyiri Desert. Chalbi Desert is found in Marsabit County while Nyiri Desert is found in Kajiado County.

During exceptional1y rainy years,
enough water flows into the Chalbi
desert from the surrounding
uplands to form a shallow lake,
which may persist for several
months. In 1978, following' heavy
rains that began in late 1977, a lake
about 50 centimetres deep extended
between North Horr and Maikona.
Waterfowl took up residence on
this temporary ,'Lake Cha,lbi '.
