Lulu Ya Jamii Foundation Launches Free Sewing Machine Operator Training Program in Mtwapa.

Lulu Ya Jamii Foundation has unveiled a fully sponsored Sewing Machine Operator Training Program aimed at empowering youth in the coastal region. The free five-week course will provide hands-on training and certification, equipping participants with employable skills in garment production.

The initiative specifically targets youth aged 18 to 35 years, with the following minimum requirements:

✅ Must have KCPE certificate or higher
✅ Able to read and write
✅ Must have a valid National ID
✅ Must be available immediately for training

Training will be conducted in Mtwapa, and successful trainees will be linked to job interviews for possible placement in the apparel industry after completion.

This effort by the Lulu Ya Jamii Foundation is part of its ongoing mission to create practical opportunities for economic empowerment and to reduce youth unemployment across Kenya.

MCSK Director Pday Hurrikane Addresses Concerns Over George Kithi and Kilifi Artists.

Kilifi-based artist and Director at the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), Pday Hurrikane, has issued a statement to clarify his recent remarks, distancing himself from any political motivations and emphasizing his commitment to the creative industry.

According to Pday, his statements were not politically driven but were intended to shed light on pressing issues affecting artists, particularly in Kilifi. He stated that his focus remains on protecting intellectual property and ensuring that artists' rights are respected. He also called for professionalism in discourse, stressing the importance of avoiding personal attacks and staying focused on the bigger picture.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns from local artists who claim that lawyer George Kithi has neglected Kilifi talent while appearing to support artists from Tanzania. Many accuse him of using the names of Kilifi artists to boost his public image and portray himself as a major contributor to the county’s creative scene claims that artists insist are misleading.

Pday reaffirmed that the goal is to unite artists and champion their welfare. His message has been well received within the creative community, with artists expressing solidarity and confidence in his leadership.

NACADA Kenya Director Ali Swaleh Mazrui and Youth Ambassador & Climate Champion Charlene Ruto led a powerful Anti-Drug Campaign Townhall in Mombasa, organized by the Mombasa Universities and Colleges Students Association (MUCSA) in partnership with various stakeholders.

According to the NACADA Kenya 2024 Status of Drug & Substance Use in Kenyan Universities report, 45.6% of university students have used at least one drug or substance in their lifetime. The report further revealed that 26.6% of students across both private and public universities are currently using substances such as alcohol, to***co, cannabis, and khat, as well as emerging drugs like methamphetamine and codeine syrup.

Director Ali Swaleh Mazrui was honoured to join Charlene Ruto and over 500 university and college students, together with vibrant student leaders, in the collective effort to raise awareness and combat drug abuse among the youth.
