Hon. Robert Cheruiyot Defends CS Chepkwony, Slams "Unreasonable" Accusations and Rush to Impeach
Baringo, Kenya – Hon. Robert Cheruiyot, a Member of the Baringo County Assembly, has come out strongly in defense of County Secretary (CS) Chepkwony, criticizing what he terms as unjustified and unreasonable accusations by fellow MCA Hon. Sharon Keter.
In a statement posted on his official page, Cheruiyot questioned the credibility and speed of the Ad-Hoc Committee’s process. He revealed that the committee sat on Sunday, June 9, grilling the County Secretary for over seven hours, late into the night. However, by the next morning, Tuesday, June 10, a full report had already been compiled and tabled — a pace Cheruiyot described as "record supersonic speed never realized by any rational committee ever established."
He further claimed that the debate surrounding the report was seemingly predetermined, with calls being made for everyone mentioned in it to vacate office even before the day’s session ended. “It was as though the verdict had been written before the interrogation began,” he noted.
Hon. Cheruiyot also reminded the Assembly and the public that, by law, County Assembly reports are granted a 30-day window for implementation. Despite this, he noted, efforts to impeach the County Secretary were already in motion within just one week.
Adding to the complexity, the County Secretary has since moved to court to seek legal redress, asking to be allowed to fulfill his duties — including processing payments for casual workers — without interference or intimidation. According to Cheruiyot, this legal move has angered some members of the same Ad-Hoc Committee, raising questions about the fairness and legality of the entire process.
He concluded by urging fellow leaders to uphold due process and focus on service delivery rather than politically motivated actions.
