Meet Nkateko Mzimba, a powerhouse protector of and . At just 32, Nkateko has become a symbol of resilience and leadership. Starting her journey in 2014 with and the department of Fisheries, Forestry, and the Environment, she trained with Pro Track Anti-Poaching Academy and became one of the original members of the - South Africa’s trailblazing all-female ranger team.

From braving incursions to rising as a Sergeant, Media Liaison, and driver, Nkateko now leads foot and vehicle patrols in Olifants West Nature Reserve, helping keep safe - without even carrying a weapon.

Off duty, she’s a community champion. Through her self-founded Nkateko Hluvukani Foundation, she feeds over 50 people, pays bills for her childhood crèche, teaches kids about wildlife, and promotes through hands-on nature experiences.

Her heroic efforts have earned her accolades like highly commended Ranger Award, the Conservation Hero Award, and most recently, Best Field Ranger 2023 by the African Conservation Awards.

Nkateko isn’t just patrolling the wild, she’s reshaping it. Stay tuned as we dive into her extraordinary journey, from the bush to the classroom, from the frontline to the future of conservation.
