MESSAGE FROM kalemngorok Elites.
We strongly condemn the recently released Katilu Ward bursary beneficiaries list for college and university students in Turkana County. As concerned residents and educated members of Kalemngorok sub-location, we believe this list represents a serious injustice and a betrayal of the many deserving students whose futures depend on fair access to education support.
Instead of prioritizing orphans, vulnerable learners, and genuinely needy students, the allocation appears to favor individuals with personal connections to those managing the bursary process. This raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and integrity.
We highlight the following irregularities:
* Some beneficiaries have received bursary allocations more than once, including funding for both driving school and college, No.5 and No.63 because he his the son of the representative raising questions about fairness.
* Individuals with clear conflicts of interest—such as relatives of those overseeing the bursary—have been prioritized No.143 who is aspiring MCA katilu ward Hon.Tioko
* Beneficiaries include individuals who are already employed or financially stable, including No.145 and No.221 who are long-serving professionals and they are in the county payrolls
* Repeated names like No.155 and No.157
* and close family relations among beneficiaries suggest nepotism rather than merit-based selection.
These actions undermine the purpose of the bursary, which is to uplift disadvantaged students and support equal opportunity in education.
We therefore demand:
* Immediate suspension and review of the current bursary list.
* Formation of a new, independent, and transparent committee to oversee future allocations.
* Public accountability from all responsible offices, including the Ministry of Education officials, ward leadership, and relevant county authorities.
* Clear criteria and community involvement in future beneficiary selection.
We also ask: what happens to the many orphans and vulnerable students in Kalemngorok who have been excluded? Who will stand for their future?
Leadership must be guided by fairness, integrity, and service—not favoritism. This issue goes beyond individuals; it is about justice for an entire community.
