EACC Official Forced to Run for Safety as Talking Snake Disrupts Busia Raid
An operation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in Busia took a bizarre turn early yesterday morning fter a snake, allegedly under the control of one of the suspects, sent officials fleeing for safety.
Police officers and EACC agents were reportedly left stunned when, during a raid on one of the suspects' homes, they discovered a live snake among the household possessions.
Witnesses claim the reptile appeared to be responding to verbal instructions from the suspect, sparking chaos that nearly brought the operation to a standstill.
Despite the supernatural drama, the anti-graft agency pressed on with a coordinated search targeting 16 top officials from the Busia County Government.
The operation, part of an ongoing probe into allegations of procurement irregularities, conflict of interest, theft of public funds, and unexplained wealth, covered both residential and office premises.
Among those targeted were Topista Wanyama, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Finance; Peter Odima , CEC Member for Housing; Paul Olunga Okweye, CEC Member for Youth and Sports; Gibson Ojiambo Wafula, Chief Officer for Finance; Evans Wandera Wangata, Director of Budget; and Leonard Omancha, Director of Supply Chain Management.
Investigators believe these officials may have played key roles in the irregular awarding of Ksh 1.4 billion in tenders during the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 financial years, allegedly through 26 proxy companies linked to their family members and close associates.
