Former Kisumu councilors have rejected Treasury CS John Mbadi’s proposal to give them Sh2,000 monthly under Inua Jamii, terming it an insult. They argued that unlike former MPs who enjoy pensions, their contributions at the local level are ignored.

Isaiah Onyango called the offer “a mockery” and urged for at least Sh20,000 monthly or a Sh200,000 lump sum. Jacktone Onunga added that the process had started under former President Uhuru but stalled, urging Mbadi to push for legal changes to secure their dues.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen explained that the release of abducted chiefs was secured through the intervention of elders. He said Kenyan elders engaged their Somali counterparts, urging them to use local clan structures to pursue the abductors, since the clans are the same across the border.

Elders in Somalia then intervened through traditional mechanisms and facilitated the chiefs’ release, without direct involvement from the Kenyan government.
