Today, the Department of Donor Relations successfully concluded a one-day consultative meeting focused on strategically mapping all donor-funded projects within the county.
The initiative aims to create a comprehensive database to identify project gaps and prepare vital data for Devcon 2025.

The session, chaired by Dr. Alikheyr Mohamed, Director for Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization, brought together line directors and focal persons coordinating donor initiatives, leading to the development of a Donor Mapping Template.

"This meeting is a significant step towards enhancing collaboration and transparency," stated Dr. Alikheyr.
"The new database will be instrumental in ensuring our donor-funded projects directly address the needs and realities of Mandera's communities," he added.

The session was also attended by directors from key sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and water.

Additionally, the attendees reviewed and validated a socio-economic study conducted by ASAL Development Focus (ASDEF), a Wajir-based NGO, providing valuable input to ensure the data accurately reflects community needs.

This effort is set to improve service delivery for Mandera County residents under the leadership of H.E Mohamed Adan Khalif.

The Mandera County Climate Change Unit (CCU) successfully conducted a community validation exercise for the Draft Dandu Hill Ecosystem Restoration Plan in Dandu Town. The exercise brought together a diverse group of participants representing local communities, the County Government, the National Government, and non-state actors.

Community representatives were drawn from various settlements surrounding the Dandu Hill Ecosystem, including Dandu Town, Didkoba, Qarsahama, Dadabo, Kubihalo, Harbuyo, Arges, Lakaro and Abarkato among others. These included youth, women, elders, persons with disabilities (PWDs), members of Community Forest Associations (CFAs), Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs) and the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee (WCCPC).

Government representation included officials from the Sub-County administration, teachers from the local schools as well as National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs).

During the session, the CCU team presented the draft plan, which was well received by participants who commended the quality of the work.
Valuable feedback and additional insights were provided by the community, which will be incorporated to enrich and strengthen the final document.

As part of the validation process, the CCU team and selected community representatives conducted a joint field visit to Dandu Hill on the second day to collect further situational data and observations relevant to the restoration efforts.

The updated plan, incorporating community inputs and field findings will now be finalized and forwarded to the County Executive for approval, adoption, and official signing by H.E. the Governor.

The County Government of Mandera is committed to an inclusive, community-led climate action and ecosystem restoration.

Today, the Ministry of Health Services embarked on a four-day induction exercise for newly recruited healthcare workers.

This is part of the ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen the county’s healthcare systems and improve service delivery to the residents Mandera County. This initiative is a key step towards ensuring that all health care workers are adequately prepared to deliver quality, compassionate and professional care in both urban and remote health facilities across the county.

Speaking during the induction, the County Secretary and Head of Public Service Mr. Billow Isaack expressed his gratitude to the new recruits for choosing to serve in Mandera and emphasized the county government’s commitment to supporting them through continuous professional development and a conducive working environment.

The healthcare workers will be deployed across the county health facilities, including hard-to-reach areas, as part of the county’s broader health agenda to enhance access to affordable, equitable, and high-quality healthcare for its residents.

The county administration remains committed to strengthening health infrastructure, investing in staff welfare and expanding access to essential health services in alignment with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.

The event was also attended by the CECM for Public Service Management, the acting Chairperosn of Mandera County Public Service Board, the CCOs for Public Health, Medical Services, Public Service Management as well as directors from health and human resource management among others.

The Department of Community Cohesion and Conflict Management, in partnership with BORESHA NABAD and IOM-KOICA, successfully concluded a two-day peace dialogue meeting between the Garre and Degodia communities at Granada Hotel in Mandera town.

The meeting brought together key elders from both communities, religious leaders (ulamaa), government administrators and the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service Management and Community Cohesion among others.

The engagement served as a follow-up to the previous month's meeting with the aim of strengthening social cohesion across community lines, addressing conflict drivers contributing to fragility, insecurity, and underdevelopment in Mandera County, fnalize action points agreed upon in previous discussions as well as Confirm blood compensation (diya) arrangements.
The dialogue engagement also sought to establish a sustainable, community-owned peace agreement that promotes trust, cooperation and institutional support for lasting peace and inclusive recovery.

The two-day dialogue resulted in the following key agreements:
1. Reaffirmation of the commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
2. Activation of a Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (CMC).
3. Launch of a community sensitization campaign and peace caravan led by ulamaa.
4. Mobilization of support for the safe return of displaced persons to their villages.

Stakeholders expressed sincere appreciation to BORESHA NABAD and IOM-KOICA for their continued collaboration with the County Government in fostering peaceful community relations.

The County Climate Change Unit (CCU) convened a technical validation workshop to review and enhance the Dandu Hill Ecosystem Restoration Plan (2025–2030). The workshop brought together participants from relevant county departments, national government agencies, and non-governmental organizations operating within the county.

During the session, the CCU presented the draft restoration plan to stakeholders, who commended the quality and depth of the work undertaken. Participants provided constructive feedback and proposed valuable additions and adjustments to strengthen the plan’s objectives and implementation strategies.

Following a collaborative review and discussion, the enhanced document was adopted by all stakeholders present. The plan will now be shared with the host community for further validation to ensure inclusivity, local ownership and alignment with community priorities.

Today, H.E. Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif was the chief guest at the official opening of the junior secondary school block and the parents' day event at Mandera Junior Integrated Academy in Mandera town.

Governor Khalif commended the seamless coordination between the Teachers Service Commission and the County Department of Education in enhancing access to quality education for learners in the county.

He further reiterated his administration's commitment to strengthening the capacity of educational institutions through infrastructural support, training for teachers and the provision of learning materials.

Today, H.E. Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif was the chief guest at the official launch of a book titled ' I Can, A Girl From The North' at the Governor's hall in Mandera town.

I Can, The girl from the North by Taslima Mohamed is an autobiographical account of a young girl from Mandera and her journey through life, marked by ambition, faith and resilience.

In his remarks, Governor Khalif lauded the brilliant effort of Taslima, adding that her actions would inspire other talented and enthusiastic young writers across the county. In a show of support, the governor committed to print 500 extra copies of the book to reach a wider audience.

The County Government of Mandera recognizes education as a key pillar of sustainable development due to its huge impact on shaping the future of our society.
The county administration has undertaken transformative initiatives such as the Elimu Kwa Wote program, to enhance access to quality education.

The Department of Community Cohesion, in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), held a two-day rapid response dialogue in Wargadud town to ease tensions between the Garre and Murule communities.

The engagement brought together peace committees, clan elders, national and county government representatives led by the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service Management and Community Cohesion and DRC officials.

The meeting followed recent incidents that threatened the peaceful coexistence of the two communities.

Key Resolutions Included:

1) Clan elders committed to working jointly to calm tensions and prevent further violence.

2) A 15-member joint committee will be formed to identify and resolve outstanding issues.

3)Both clans agreed to continue fact-finding on recent killings and injuries and report findings promptly.

Participants thanked the County Government and DRC, under the Resilience, Peace and Stability Project, for organizing the dialogue, whose timely intervention was hailed as critical in fostering peace and stability in Mandera County.

On Monday, 30th June 2025, the County Government of Mandera, led by H.E. Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif received a high-level joint delegation of representatives from the National Government, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and IGAD.

The visit follows the bilateral engagement between the Republic of Kenya and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, convened under the auspices of IGAD on the 5th of June in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting emphasized the critical importance of strengthening multilateral responses to cross-border connectivity challenges confronting the Horn of Africa. The dialogue was conducted within the framework of IGAD's Vision 2050 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation, ensuring alignment between national infrastructure priorities and regional integration objectives.

The team conducted site visits to the proposed bridges and one-stop border point locations and ICT connection points in Mandera ( Malka Suftu) and Rhamu. They also carried out technical assessment and stakeholder consultations, which are critical components of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project.

Today, the team concluded their four-day visit through a bilateral technical meeting to review site observations, agree on final locations and discuss the next steps for joint coordination mechanisms.

Today, the Ministry of Social Development, through the Department of Social Services launched a range of assistive and mobility devices for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the Mandera County PWDs Resource and Information Centre in Mandera town.

The distributed devices include standard and pediatric wheelchairs, elbow crutches, white canes, tricycles, walking frames, among others. These will greatly improve the daily lives of beneficiaries by enhancing their access to education, livelihoods, and community participation.

The initiative aims to enhance mobility, independence, dignity and safety for PWDs across the county, aligning with Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif’s commitment to inclusive development.

The CECM for Social Development Mr. Mohamed Ali Omar, reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the county, adding that the county is dedicated to integrating disability inclusion into all its programs, including food aid, housing support, bursaries and other social protection initiatives.

Other senior officials present included the CCO for Social Services and Special Programs, Fatuma Tiko; CCO for Youth and Sports; Abdiwahab Mohamed; staff from the department of social services and representatives of the PWD community.

In collaboration with the Department of Community Cohesion, Conflict Management and the Department of ICT, Vision Corps Initiative (VCI), with support from WFP/UN PEACE FUNDS through the Promoting Peace and Inclusive Development Project, conducted a two-day engagement with key stakeholders to analyze the causes of conflict and map conflict belts, corridors and hotspots.

The exercise will enable proactive, coordinated and evidence-based responses, as well as develop geo-reference database of conflict corridor and hotspots that can inform policy programming, resource allocation and early responses.

The participants affirmed that the mapping of conflict corridors and hotspots will reduce duplication of peace building effort and also enhance coordination among stakeholders.

Among the key stakeholders who attended the two-day engagement included the CECM for Public Service Management, Community Cohesion and Conflict Management, County Peace Chairman, members of peace committees drawn from different sub-counties including religious leaders, women, youth and CSO organizations.

The participants appreciated VCI for these important initiatives and requested for a continuous support in the peace building initiative.
