Eldoret: Government pulls out illegal structures
In a bid to beat the national government deadline, Uasin Gishu County government has pulled down all illegal structures erected on public utilities. Backed up by a contingent of armed police officers, government bulldozers, back-hoes and graders descended on perimeter walls, mabati walled kiosks and permanent buildings associated with former politicians and key businessmen whose identities remain unknown.
According to a communique available online, the architectural designs of the much- awaited six storey, state of the art market being put up jointly by the national and county government and whose foundation stone was laid down by president William Ruto a month ago.
In the same communique, the state department for Lands and Physical planning through a Mr. K. Theuri requested Uasin Gishu county government to ensure that: The presidential decree to put up the market goes on uninterrupted, all illegal structures on public and riparian land are pulled down, demolish structures on top of the sewer line and that the working area is secured with a temporary fence.
By the time of filing this article, all the buildings had been flattened and dirt carted away.
Meanwhile, the contractor has completed the excavation works and is now laying down the formwork.
