Whenever Mr. Omuga passed through the newsroom or the KBC corridors, you couldn’t help but pause. There was something magnetic about his presence; a quiet confidence and a voice that seemed to embrace everyone it addressed. I admired how effortlessly he carried himself, and how that same voice, which had reached millions, could still be warm in a casual greeting.

The Kenyan media fraternity is mourning the loss of one of its most distinctive and beloved voices. Veteran broadcaster Charles Omuga Kabisae passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, after a long illness, leaving behind a rich legacy that spans decades in the service of journalism and public communic...

Kenya is awakening to the truth that slogans can’t build a nation: only bold action, honest leadership, and united purpose can. Our future is not a dream; it’s within reach.

Kenya’s greatest development crisis isn’t a lack of ambition — it’s a dangerous addiction to political short-termism. Every new government arrives with grand promises, fresh manifestos, and flashy slogans. But instead of building on existing plans, they abandon, rebrand, or repurpose past ef...

To address the imbalance in remuneration, a new model is proposed—one that clearly distinguishes between what a person brings to the table academically and the role they occupy within an organization. Under this framework, an individual’s basic salary would be directly linked to their highest academic qualification, while allowances and benefits would be tied to the responsibilities and stature of the office held.

Kenya’s salary structures across both the public and private sectors are largely anchored on job titles and positions of authority rather than academic merit. In many institutions, the weight of one’s pay slip is determined more by the office one occupies than the level of education one has atta...

The capitation programme, introduced during President Mwai Kibaki’s administration and expanded under President Uhuru Kenyatta was never meant to be a political talking point. It was a transformative social contract, one that assured even the most disadvantaged Kenyan child a fighting chance at success through education. Reducing or delaying these funds, as is already happening, undermines this foundational promise.

In what can only be described as a moment of deep contradiction within government ranks, recent statements on the future of Kenya’s free education programme have left education stakeholders, parents, school heads, and most importantly, millions of learners in an anxious limbo. On one hand, Treasur...

In today’s volatile political landscape across Africa, businesses can no longer afford to focus solely on profits and operations—they must embed political risk at the heart of their strategy to survive and thrive in environments like Kenya, where governance dynamics, policy shifts, and electoral outcomes increasingly shape the business terrain.

Several businesses in Kenya have closed or scaled down operations over the past five years, with some attributing these closures to the political environment, alongside economic factors. In Kenya’s unpredictable political climate, doing business demands careful consideration. Although small and me...

As Kenya pushes forward with its plan to merge state agencies, a silent squeeze is steadily taking hold—starving institutions into reluctant submission through unexplained budget cuts, frozen hiring, and non-renewal of contracts—sparking growing concern over the transparency, human impact, and long-term implications of these reforms on service delivery and public trust.

The Kenyan government’s longstanding plan to streamline operations by merging state corporations and agencies is quietly gaining traction—though not through bold declarations or sweeping reforms. Instead, a more discreet, calculated strategy is unfolding. Government agencies earmarked for consol...

Discover how Article 37 of Kenya’s Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to peacefully assemble, demonstrate, picket, and present petitions to public authorities—rights that form the cornerstone of participatory democracy. This detailed analysis unpacks the legal foundations, practical implications, and the critical balance between civil liberties and public order, offering valuable insight into how Kenyans can exercise these freedoms responsibly and effectively.

The constitutional architecture of modern democratic states finds its strength not merely in the separation of powers or the establishment of institutions, but fundamentally in the sacred space carved out for citizen participation in governance. Article 37 of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution stands as a ...

Curbing the growing menace of fake academic and professional certificates in Kenya calls for a multi-pronged, well-coordinated approach that goes beyond mere condemnation. It demands a firm resolve to reform systems, enforce laws, and restore integrity across institutions. One of the most urgent steps is strengthening the regulatory framework governing the issuance, verification, and recognition of qualifications.

Kenya is grappling with a disturbing surge in the use of fake academic and professional certificates—a trend that continues to undermine the integrity of institutions and threaten national development. The problem has permeated both public and private sectors. While officials at all levels of gove...
