Holding Power Accountable: The Role of Social Media in Political Transparency.

By Peter Marango Mwibanda.

In an age where nearly every Kenyan has a smartphone, a voice, and a platform, social media has become the new public square—a digital battlefield where ideas clash, truth emerges, and power is challenged. From city dwellers in Nairobi to youth in rural Kisii or Turkana, citizens are now more informed, more vocal, and more connected than ever before.

Social media is not just about trending hashtags or viral dance challenges—it is a tool for political accountability.

It is the eyes and ears of the nation. It is the voice of the voiceless. And it is reshaping democracy in ways previously unimaginable.

Power and Secrecy: A Legacy Being Disrupted.

For decades, political power in Kenya thrived behind closed doors—hidden from the public by bureaucracy, media control, and silence.

Corruption scandals were buried. Public funds vanished without a trace. And

Devolution Is Here to Stay — Let’s Fix It, Not Fight It. The current chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) is H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi,Governor of Wajir county .

By IP ReporterIntellectualsPost.co.ke
When Kenyans overwhelmingly passed the 2010 Constitution and ushered in a devolved system of governance in 2013, the mood was one of hope and optimism.
The promise was simple but profound: bring governance closer to the people, ensure equitable distribution of national resources and empower local leadership to address the unique needs of each region.
Fifteen years later, that dream of transformative devolution remains only partially fulfilled.
While the architecture of the devolved system is firmly in place, it faces relentless headwinds that have slowed progress and, in some counties, reversed earlier gains.

The Promise of Devolution
Devolution was envisioned as the solution to marginalization, corruption and the top-down governance that had long defined Kenya's

BUNGOMA COUNTY — Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka believes that unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 general election will be an uphill task — if not impossible.
Speaking Sunday at Chebukwa Catholic Church, Lusaka said the current political climate mirrors a familiar pattern when an incumbent president seeks re-election.

“After all is said and done, President Ruto will still emerge victorious despite the opposition he is facing,”Lusaka said.

Lessons from the Past
Lusaka drew comparisons to previous election cycles where sitting presidents secured a second term despite opposition pressure.

In 2007, Mwai Kibaki won re-election amid intense political headwinds.

In 2013, Uhuru Kenyatta secured his second term against a well-organized opposition.

David vs. Goliath — This Time, the Weapon Is the Rule of Law. Natembeya vs Wakoli at the Senate.
An IP Editorial
Will the giant Goliath Alia’s commando ( Governor George Natembeya)with a loyal following — slay the strategic ‘David’(Senator David Wakoli),armed not with muscle but with the Constitution and unyielding resolve?
Or will the underdog’s sling of law and principle bring down a giant whose strength has long been measured by crowd size and political bravado?
*In Kenya, the rule of law — not the size of the crowd — determines justice.
*In a strong democracy, even governors must answer to oversight.
This week, Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya faces a truth larger than any rally crowd can drown out: the Senate is calling, and cheering supporters will not stand in for facts.
Senator Wakoli, a first-term legislator, fits the role of biblical David in this unfolding drama.
Like the shepherd boy with a sling, Wakoli is armed not with muscle but with the

Tanzania Cracks Down on Opposition After MP Criticizes Government. Kawe MP Bishop Josephat Gwajima.
By IP Reporter.
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — The Tanzanian government has shut down a prominent Pentecostal church a day after its leader, an outspoken lawmaker, accused the state of abducting critics.
Glory of Christ Church – Ufufuo na Uzima, led by Kawe MP Bishop Josephat Gwajima, was ordered closed shortly after Gwajima publicly alleged that government agents were behind a wave of disappearances.
No official reason was given for the closure, but critics say it is part of a growing crackdown on dissent under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Gwajima’s remarks touched a nerve in a country where opposition voices, activists, and civil society leaders are increasingly being silenced through arrests, harassment, and intimidation.
Opposition leader Tundu Lissu is currently facing treason charges for allegedly calling on his supporters to resist upcoming elections. His allies say the

BUSIA, Kenya .
Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has issued a stern warning to governors over the misuse of funds intended for fertilizer and seeds.

“The Senate Agriculture Committee will thoroughly audit all counties' financial records to ensure funds allocated for fertilizer and seeds have been used as intended,” said Wakoli.
His remarks come amid growing public outcry and credible allegations of misappropriation and fraud in the management of subsidized farm inputs across several counties.
“We are committed to making Kenya food secure. It is now clear that some governors are looting money meant for critical agricultural inputs. We will expose and hold them accountable.”

Pump Price Hikes Loom as World Bank Urges Kenya Toward Carbon Tax: Green Goal or Economic Burden? By I.P. Reporter
NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyans are bracing for another possible fuel price increase as the World Bank pushes the government to adopt a carbon tax — a move aimed at accelerating climate action but one that could further strain consumers already grappling with high costs.
The global lender has urged Kenya to implement the tax as part of a broader strategy to meet its green transition goals and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. While the World Bank insists the policy is critical for aligning Kenya’s economy with environmental sustainability, many fear it will drive up pump prices and hurt low-income households and small businesses.

Smart Harvest: How to Avoid Egg Production Losses in Your Laying Flocks. Layers.
By IP reporter.
Egg production is one of the most rewarding ventures in poultry farming, but it also demands precise care and management.
One of the biggest frustrations for farmers is watching their laying flocks fall short of expected productivity. The good news? Most egg production losses can be prevented through a few critical interventions.
From proper housing and nutrition to robust disease prevention measures, ensuring that hens reach their full genetic laying potential starts with smart planning and management.
1. Start With Proper Housing
A laying hen needs a stress-free, comfortable and clean environment to lay consistently. Poor housing conditions are among the leading causes of reduced egg production.
Key housing considerations:

Dhogoye Bridge: The Bridge That Politics Built—But Never Delivered. Dhogoye Bridge.
For decades, Dhogoye Bridge has existed not as a physical structure but as a symbol of broken promises and perpetual campaigning in Siaya County. Each election cycle, it returns to the spotlight—used by politicians to stir hope among the people of Usenge and Got Agulu sublocation—only to be forgotten the moment the crowds disperse and the votes are counted.
When President William Ruto visited Siaya in October 2023, he made what sounded like a concrete commitment: Dhogoye Bridge would be completed within 18 months. The announcement brought renewed optimism to a region long neglected in national development plans.
But nearly two years later, the site remains untouched. There is no construction, no contractors, and no explanation—only silence.
