Kikuyu gospel singer Ben Githae has issued an apology following backlash over his recent visit to Deputy President Kindiki’s residence in Karen. Githae, along with several prominent artists from Mt. Kenya, attended the meeting purportedly to discuss support for the creative arts. However, many fans interpreted the visit as a political endorsement of the Kenya Kwanza government.
Critics, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, labeled the musicians as traitors to their community. Gachagua urged Mt. Kenya residents to boycott their music unless they publicly apologized, alleging that each artist received KSh 50,000 for attending the meeting.
During the gathering, Githae even composed a song praising Kindiki, which further fueled accusations of political motivations. Under mounting pressure from Gen Z supporters and other fans in the Mt. Kenya region, Githae appeared on Inooro FM to express remorse, stating, “I was lost, please forgive me.”
He has vowed to avoid such missteps in the future, seeking to rebuild trust with his younger audience, many of whom threatened to unfollow him and boycott his music. Githae is now calling for forgiveness and pledging to keep politics out of his artistic endeavors moving forward.
