THE COUNTY government through the Directorate of Disaster & Risk Management and The Red Cross Action Team (RCAT), local authorities with the help of community volunteers have since responded to the fire victims who had incurred loses following an early morning fire incident in Marigat ward on Wednesday.

—In the morning of 13th August 2025 in Yatoi, Marigat Town, residents are still coming to terms with the destruction left behind by an unfortunate fire incident. The blaze, which broke out at around 6:00 a.m., swept through three plots, razing 27 residential rooms and 13 retail shops to the ground.

Families watched helplessly as the inferno consumed their homes and businesses within minutes. Residents were left with only clothes and little they could salvage, while shop owners saw years of hard work and investment reduced to ashes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

During the response and while addressing the victims, Disaster & Risk Management Officer Mr. Baimet, urged victims to take stock of their losses as the county government is looking forward to helping them back on their feet. He commended all stakeholders who rallied to support the community in its hour of need.

Relief efforts had began with aid packages distributed to the displaced families. The supplies included 50 mattresses, 30 blankets, 80 mosquito nets, 20 bags of maize, 5 bags of beans, 5 bales of maize flour, 10 cartons of soap and 5 cartons of dignity kits.

"Though the road to recovery will be long, the unity and resilience shown by Marigat’s residents offer a glimmer of hope." Added Mr. Baimet.
