Ministry Issues Tough Warning Over Legal Cases in School Games

The Ministry of Education has directed all schools to stop filing court cases over disputes arising during school games, urging them to use established internal conflict resolution mechanisms.

In a circular dated July 4, 2025, PS for Basic Education Dr. Julius Jwan Bitok expressed concern over a growing trend where schools, including those under KSSSA, are bypassing laid-down appeal structures and heading straight to court. He termed the move wasteful and against the spirit of sportsmanship in education.

All schools with ongoing legal battles involving other institutions, KSSSA, or the Ministry have been ordered to withdraw such cases immediately and pursue mediation or internal channels instead.

The Ministry also warned against hiring external lawyers without written approval from the Attorney-General. Any existing unauthorized legal contracts must be terminated.

Furthermore, heads of institutions have been cautioned against diverting school funds meant for learning activities to finance legal fees. Offenders risk disciplinary action and sanctions for financial misconduct.

Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno could be in line for a sensational return to Gor Mahia, just days after the club disbanded its entire technical bench following a trophyless season.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has hinted at recalling some members of the outgoing team, noting that the changes were part of a broader restructuring and not outright dismissals.

“This was not a dismissal, it was a dissolution,” said Rachier in an interview with Radio Citizen. “Some may be retained based on evaluations.”

Among those tipped for a possible return is goalkeeping coach Boniface Oluoch.

Gor Mahia’s decision comes after a 2-1 loss to Nairobi United in the Mozzart Bet Cup final — a defeat that marked the club’s first trophyless season since 2016.

Rachier further revealed that the hunt for a new head coach is already underway, with a preference for a foreign tactician due to limited interest from local coaches.

“Since I became chairman, I’ve never received an application from a local coach. The pressure at Gor is immense,” he added.

The club is expected to unveil a new technical team in the coming weeks as preparations intensify for the 2025/26 season.

Bumbani Stars will take on Compel FC this Saturday, July 12, at Moi Stadium in Embu in the much-anticipated FKF Division One promotion playoff.

Scheduled for 1200HRS, the clash will determine who clinches the final ticket to the National Super League. Bumbani Stars finished second in Zone A, while Compel FC were runners-up in Zone B.
