H.E. Gola Boyoi Gola, Chief Administrator of Pibor Administrative Area, H.E. Emmanuel Adil Anthony of Central Equatoria State, and H.E. Dr. Riek G*i Kok of Jonglei State held a tripartite meeting aimed at enhancing peace and security in the three administrative units. Chaired by Governor Adil of Central Equatoria, the meeting emphasized collaboration to tackle shared challenges, foster peace, strengthen regional stability, improve protection of people and their properties.
The leaders agreed on number of resolutions which includes:
1. Inclusion of the Government of Eastern Equatoria State in this initiative to ensure peaceful coexistence among the four administrative units.
2. Conduct rotational quarterly meetings of the high level Committee at the respective States and Administrative area.
3. Enhance security cooperation by strengthening joint security mechanisms to prevent and respond to incidents, ensuring the protection of the citizens and communities.
4. Promote dialogue and Reconciliation among communities, addressing underlying issues, promoting peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.
5. Take joint action to prevent and respond to cattle raiding and child abductions, and support the safe return of abducted children to their families.
6. Address attacks of cattle traders in Mogiri by deploying National security forces and construction of permanent perimeter fence to safeguard the traders.
7. Empower youth through education, skills, training and economic opportunities to promote peace and stability.
8. Promotion of trade, recognizing the potential for trade and economic cooperation among the administrative units.
9. The National Government should carryout nationwide disarmament of the civil population to minimize crimes.
10. Establishment of high level Committee which consists of the three Governors, from Central Equatoria State, Eastern Equatoria State, Jonglei State, and the Chief Administrator of Pibor Administrative Area.
11. Establishment of crisis management to be headed by four security advisors, Ministers of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency, Ministers of Peace Building, Commissioners of Police, and heads of other security sectors.
12. Conduct rotational joint conferences in all the four Administrative units to sensitize the people on importance of peaceful coexistence.
13. Rehabilitation of roads connecting the four Administrative units to ease movement of the people and their goods respectively.
The resolutions aims to address common challenges such as insecurity along Juba-Bor highway, influx of cattle destroying farmlands, issues of Internal Displaced Persons [IDPs] and Landgrabbing in Central Equatoria State.
The leaders reiterated their commitment in implementing the resolutions in letter and spirit, urging the communities of their respective States and Administrative area to support and participate in the peace initiative. They also directed all security organs to remain vigilant and display professionalism for the protection of the Citizens, while appealing to the humanitarian organizations to support the efforts in promoting peace and development.
