A few days ago, I wrote these lines on my WhatsApp status:
She didn’t want anything.
She didn’t want to offer anything beyond her means.
She wasn’t chasing some convenient ending that served her.
She just loved me,
in her own naïve but pure ways.
Those lines were inspired by a memory.
A few years ago, I was in a relationship with a girl I’ll call Anna. We were together for about two years. I met her in 2024, although I had known her from earlier years. At first, her interest in me made me curious. I wondered whether her feelings were genuine or if she was simply testing my reaction.
Over time, curiosity turned into companionship, and companionship slowly became something deeper.
Anna never seemed to want anything from me except me. She didn’t measure love through money, status, or promises about the future. She was simply present, authentic, and comfortable being herself. She never tried to impress me by pretending to be someone else, and that honesty made what we had feel real.
What also made her different was that she lived in the moment. Our conversations were simple — fashion, food, and my endless interest in football. We argued sometimes, like any couple does, but we always found our way back to each other.
In many ways, we were just two people enjoying each other’s presence.
Looking back now, I realize we were both still naïve about love. Sometimes it meant passion, sometimes insecurity, sometimes misunderstandings. But one thing about her was always clear: her feelings were genuine.
She just loved me.
Eventually life took me away from the motherland in search of greener pastures, and somewhere along the way we lost contact. The last time I tried to reach her, she was unavailable.
Still, I hope that somewhere out there, the memory of what we shared remains the same — untouched by distance and time.
Some people come into our lives not to stay forever, but to teach us what love looks like when it is simple, honest, and pure.
