Don’t Forget to Check in With Yourself
No matter how busy the days become, remember to pause—to breathe, to listen, to check in with your mind as much as your body.
I learned this the hard way.
Growing up where acts of service spoke louder than words, I carried everything in my own hands,
only reaching for help when I could no longer hold the weight.
And over time, those hands grew heavy—so heavy that my memory slipped through my fingers,
my body kept working while my mind quietly unraveled.
With gentle pushes from friends who saw me clearer than I saw myself,
I walked into a therapist’s office.
And there, I was met with a truth I never thought belonged to me:
depression.
That was the moment I realized—
what goes around, comes around.
The pressure we pour into ourselves,
the silence we hold instead of speaking,
the boundaries we guard too tightly—
they circle back, they shape us,
and sometimes they break us.
But here is what I’ve also learned:
It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to be selfish for your own survival,
without offering an explanation.
Sometimes there are no words anyway—
only memory gaps,
only the weight of stress too heavy to name.
And that’s still okay.
Because healing begins not in perfection,
but in the quiet moment you choose yourself.
Day by day. Step by step. Breath by breath.
So this is your reminder:
check in.
With your heart,
your mind,
your body.
Because you are worth the pause.
