ANTI-ARCHIVE is an independent Phnom Penh based film production studio established in 2014.
Anti-Archive produces and co-produces fiction and documentary films by the emerging, new generation of Cambodian filmmakers, as well as films by international, independent directors shooting in Cambodia. GRANDMA NAI WHO PLAYED FAVORITES has won the Audience Award at the Écrans Mixtes Lyon yesterday!
It’s a wonderful honor to be recognized by such an important platform for q***r cinema, and we’re grateful for the warm reception from the festival’s audience.
THE NIGHTSEEKERS will be in Paris for the short film competition at Cinéma du réel - Festival international du film documentaire!
We’re grateful and honored to be part of this year’s edition of the festival. Kavich Neang returns once again, following the presentation of his feature documentary Last Night I Saw You Smiling there in 2019.
It was also a pleasure to read the festival’s note on the film:
“Filming alone, cinéma vérité style, the director navigates two modes: both immersing himself in their private lives, and taking on the role of audience when they perform at parties. A complex family dynamic emerges gradually,..."
Many thanks again to our co-producers Kongchak Pictures and Sâmleng.
We attended the world premiere of INCIDENT ON THE MOUNTAIN, which wrapped its screening at the Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival last week.
We’re deeply grateful to the entire Berlinale team for the care and coordination in welcoming not just the film, but the whole team.
Our biggest thanks also go to Heinrich Böll Stiftung Cambodia for helping make Savunthara’s trip and stay in Berlin possible.
Here are some moments from the premiere and the award ceremony.

Presented as part of the Shorts 1 program, Intersecting Memories, the program note reads, “The invocation of history continues in Kavich Neang’s The Nightseekers, an invaluable time capsule that re-edits footage the filmmaker captured in 2014 of a family from the now-demolished White Building, which also informed his 2021 feature White Building.”
Many thanks again to our co-producers Kongchak Pictures and Sâmleng.
Following today’s premiere at MoMA at 2 PM, the film will screen again on Tuesday, March 10 at 4:30 PM.

We’re thrilled to share that The Nightseekers (ពនេចរ), a new short documentary by Kavich Neang, will hold its world premiere in March at Doc Fortnight at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA The Museum of Modern Art), in New York City.
As Kavich develops his second feature following his debut White Building (2021), this short documentary brings us back into the lives of those connected to the White Building, reminding us of the many stories that remain untold. The documentary follows five young brothers who drive the streets of Phnom Penh each night in search of venues to perform their break-dancing routine to earn money for their family. Kavich rediscovered the footage from 2014 while organizing old hard drives a decade later in 2024, and he immediately began editing the material into a short film. The resulting work forms an intimate portrait of a family striving amid Cambodia's economic transformation in the 2010s.
In Kavich’s words: “Upon rediscovering the footage, I could remember how exciting it was to follow these brothers at first, watching them dancing, snacking, and enjoying their time chatting with their siblings on the tuk-tuk while seeking out performance venues around the city for hours. But I also realized that I had simultaneously documented the exhausting labor of these children and encountered their problematic late-night work relying on their bodies for their family’s benefit. Instead of doing homework or playing with their friends or siblings at home after school, they were out driving on the streets to earn money before bed each night.”
We'd like to thank our co-producers Jean-Baptiste Phou of Sâmleng, and Loy Te and Vincent Villa of Kongchak Pictures, whose support made the final stretch of finishing the documentary possible.
We look forward to sharing the documentary with the MoMA audience this March alongside other outstanding non-fiction and documentary works as part of the 2026 edition of Doc Fortnight.
Screening dates, as part of Doc Fortnight Shorts 1: Intersecting Memories
Saturday, March 7 - 2:00 PM, MoMA
Tuesday, March 10 - 4:30 PM, MoMA
Thida goes to the theatre to see a play with her friend. Later, when rehearsing her own lines, the boundaries between what’s in the script and what she actually wants to convey become ambiguous, even for herself. Will performing allow her to open up, or will she remain trapped inside her role?

BELATED HAPPY NEWS 🐯
We’re thrilled to share that SHADOWS, a short film by Sreileak Prum, will have its world premiere at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam - IFFR.
SHADOWS began with a simple but exciting idea from LinDa Saphan: to find and support new, emerging female Cambodian directors. Around the same time, Danech had the idea to produce Sreileak Prum’s new short film and everything clicked. From there, SHADOWS came to life. Bringing Sreileak’s vision to the screen was truly a team effort, driven by a passionate, female-led collective. Huge thanks to our amazing contributors and executive producers: Annong Phann, Anname Phann, Beni Chhun, Nina You, and Thavary Krouch.
We’re also grateful to Kongchak Pictures as co-producer, with special thanks to Vincent Villa and Loy Te. Through the many challenges along the way, we’re deeply thankful to our associate producers Davy Chou, Daniel Mattes, Kavich Neang, and Steve Chen.
