WHAT IT GETS RIGHT
The battery situation is genuinely solved here. 18 hours advertised β real world at 70% volume with lights on lands around 7 hours. But here's what makes this different from every Sony in the category: the battery is swappable. Buy a second pack, hot-swap it mid-party. The Sony SRS-XV800 gives you 25 hours of non-removable battery. The JBL gives you theoretically infinite runtime if you plan ahead.
240W RMS is the real number. Not peak, not burst β continuous, sustained output. At this power level it comfortably fills outdoor spaces up to tennis court size. The Sony XV800 manages 70W RMS by comparison. On paper that sounds like a blowout, and in real listening tests the JBL is consistently 3β4 dB louder β which is a clearly audible difference, not a subtle one.
The light show on the Stage 320 is a proper attraction. Starry projection, light trails, strobe effects β all synced to the beat in real time. The Sony XV800 has a light bar. The JBL has a light show. These are not the same thing.
The White Edition is genuinely tasteful. It doesn't look cheap or plasticky. It looks intentional β especially next to the standard black cabinet that every other speaker in this category defaults to.

Real-world battery life vs advertised figures. 18 hours is the spec. 7 hours at 70% volume with the light show running is what you actually get. That's still solid, but if Sony's marketing says 25 hours and JBL's says 18 β the honest comparison is closer to 7 vs 12 in real conditions. Sony wins battery stamina.
Sound tuning is V-shaped. Bass hits hard, highs are present, mids take a back seat. For hip-hop, EDM, pop β perfect. For anything vocal-forward or acoustic, you'll need to dial back the bass and EQ manually. The Sony XV800 is more balanced and more neutral. If fidelity over loudness is your priority, Sony has the edge here.
No LDAC. Bluetooth codec tops out at AAC. At $600 in 2024 that's acceptable, but Sony's inclusion of LDAC on the XV800 gives it a real high-fidelity Bluetooth streaming advantage that JBL doesn't match.
The plastic housing scratches easily. The White Edition shows marks more visibly than black. Take care of it or it'll look rough inside 3 months of regular outdoor use.
