On last Monday 19th May 2025 the Diocesan College at the Pacific Regional Seminary opened up their second term of academic and formation with retreat facilitated by Fr William Lee SSC. The theme of the retreat was "Do not be afraid."

The retreat was began with silence and prayer which is important dimension for seminarians to recollect and reflect themselves as they continued to respond God's call in their vocation and discernment. During the retreat and there were session part facilitated by the retreat master, Fr William Lee was emphasized in his sharing about vocation must be rooted in faith and practice.

On the second day of session and he shared with us one of a crucial part of vocation discernment which is prayer. He often talks about this in his sharing and mentioned to seminarians that prayer life doesn't mean to pray only with the office, rosary, eucharistic celebration but he challenges us to go beyond that to reach out and being communion with people in sharing your prayer life with them through dialogue and listening and encouraged each and everyone to be creative in prayer life.

However, he often shared and mentioned in his sermons that the vocation of priesthood doesn't mean to be ordained only to celebrate eucharist but is for the people and this mission is not for you but this is God's mission that calls you to carry out in your ministry and vocation. He reminded seminarians to be self-centered in Christ, no matter what lies ahead of you in times of difficulties and challenges in life you will be remained firm and steady in mission.

On the third day of session and he shared with us another implication on the theological understanding of the Holy Spirit and its fruit from the biblical text that will help seminarians in their vocation discernment. He invited each and everyone to recall the moment of their sacred calling and to see how the spirit of God works in you.

He invited the seminarians to reflect on the fruit of the Holy Spirit which is joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control regarding their vocation and reminded them to be open themselves to the Holy Spirit in order to advocate more graces, strength and gift that will help them along their vocation journey and try to share that fruit among yourselves and to others.

The retreat program was started with the Morning prayer followed with the talk session by the retreat master and closed each day with the adoration, evening prayer, confession and eucharistic celebration. It is an important moment of grace and silence with prayer to listen and dialogue with God as the only source of energy and strength in this sacred calling

It was a moment of grace and joy in the past two weeks during the school breaks for term 1, where seminarians have gone away for holiday to rest, refresh and enjoy with their families, friends and relatives in their respective communities accompanied with other seminarians from different Diocese all over the Pacific.

In the past two weeks, the Diocesan Seminarians from the Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru enjoyed their holiday breaks in the school campus, fixing the thatches of the roofing of the Kiakia where they cherished the friendship, relationship and bonding to each other in their holiday programmes activities.

In those days, I experienced different ways of living in a community, which was up and down experiences. It was a crucial and important moment of understanding for me to one another even though it was challenging and difficult, but it taught me to understand one's life and learn more about myself

The community environment with different personalities, backgrounds, and cultures has shaped and cultivated our humanity, where we come to recognize the deeper connections of love, respect, and closeness to one another. Therefore, I learned to be able to share and embrace my own differences, weaknesses, and strengths and tried to learn from them.

However, this week has started with a retreat week where it is a moment of recollection, reflection, and contemplation to listen attentively to God's voice in our hearts, particularly in our vocation discernment. It was graciously to come together as one community after the holiday break with good health and began with silence and prayer.

As we are about to begin another term, where we continue to walk together in hope and faith and humbly ask God's spirit to enlighten and help us in our vocation. We do not forget to appreciate and thank the people, especially the faithful in our respective Diocese, for their unwavering support and prayers of our formation in PRS, Fiji Suva.

May we have a fruitful and blessed term 2 and all the best.

Last Monday, we commemorate and remember one of the patrons, Saint of Oceania, was St Peter Chanel, who totally gave himself into the service of God. Today, the Pacific Regional Seminary of Saint Peter Chanel has closed term 1 with a eucharistic celebration in honour and celebrates the lives, dedication, faith, and legacy of St Peter Chanel in the Pacific Region.

A brief introduction of St Peter Chanel was a French missionary priest from the Society of Mary who was sent to the Pacific in spreading the good news and gospel in the olden days. He was a dedicated man of faith and servant of God, where he laid his lives for the truth and light of the gospel.

However, the Chruch recognized his dedication, commitment, and faith in carrying out the mission of Christ, where he brought light over darkness in the Pacific Island and became one of the martyr who was killed in Wallis and Futuna. He was known as the patron Saint of Oceania and the Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva, Fiji.

We give thanks to God for the gift of St Peter Chanel and his service to the Church, particularly to Oceania region, where we can witness the fruit of his faith and dedication nowadays, where many pacificans people taste God's grace which he was planted in the Oceania environment.

Therefore, the school break began where it was an important moment to go out and share God's love to our loved ones, families, friends, and people around us. May we have fruitful and meaningful holiday breaks.
