Some experiences stay with you long after they end. ❤️

During our recent crafting trip, we were invited to learn 삼베짜기 (sambaejjagi), the traditional art of h**p weaving, from a group of female masters who have spent decades preserving this craft.

Similar to the famous haenyeo divers you might know from K-dramas, these women carry generations of knowledge, skill and history within them. Their craft is even recognized as part of Korea’s protected intangible cultural heritage.

I felt incredibly honored that they shared a small part of their knowledge and stories with us..
There is sadness in knowing how limited many of these women’s choices once were.
But at the same time, there is something deeply moving about realizing that these traditions survived because of these women‘s dedication and resilience.

And you can hear this really well in their voices when they sing. 🥹

I don’t think a recording can fully capture what it felt like to hear it in person, but I hope it gives you a glimpse of this powerful, heavy but somehow comforting moment ❤️
