Youth mental health challenges cannot be addressed by the health sector alone.

They require coordinated action across education, employment, social protection, digital policy, and community services.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)’s highlights the importance of cross-sectoral and inclusive approaches to strengthen youth mental health systems.

At a glance: Nearly 37 % of Lao PDR’s population is under 18 — a generation that will shape the country’s future. But behind the numbers is a growing challenge: nearly 1 in 3 women were married before turning 18, with the highest rates among poorer and rural communities.

Early marriage is also closely linked to girls leaving school, early pregnancy and lost economic opportunities later in life.
