Seventy-five years ago today, a young executive by the name of Eric Morley launched a promotional event in support of the Festival of Britain.

The event created a media frenzy, and its resounding success launched a global phenomenon that has endured for more than three quarters of a century.

On July 27, 1951, Kiki Håkansson of Sweden was elected the first-ever Miss World at what is now the Lyceum Theatre in London. Kiki received tremendous international acclaim.

For the next three quarters of a century, Miss World has continued to provide a pathway for its participants to excel in whatever field they choose. Today, Miss World contestants and their national organizations are united by a common belief that beauty, in whatever form, is at its most powerful when it serves others.

In 1972, this unique philosophy of Beauty With a Purpose was created by Julia Morley CBE, transforming Miss World into a global force for good.

Julia insisted that every nation make a genuine commitment to using the Miss World platform to support the sick and the disadvantaged in their communities.

Over the past 75 years, Miss World has produced many unforgettable moments on some of the world’s greatest stages, alongside legendary entertainers and iconic public figures, captivating billions of viewers across generations. It has welcomed thousands of contestants from more than 180 countries and territories and has been hosted or co-hosted in more than 20 nations, creating friendships and cultural connections that transcend all borders.

On this special day, we ask you to remember that none of this would have been possible without the vision of Mr. Eric Morley, whose creativity 75 years ago gave birth to Miss World, and the brilliance of Julia Morley CBE, who made humanitarian service the heart of the Miss World organization.

Under Julia’s extraordinary leadership, Miss World has become a worldwide family of more than 140 nations committed to changing lives through kindness, opportunity, and hope.

The story of Miss World continues to be written, with countless exciting chapters still ahead. Lighting the passion and sharing the dream, all as one.
