The House of Memories is born from the desire to move ahead with the times and satisfy dynamic requirements, while enshrining familial memories and celebrating its roots. It is located on a 165' x 55' plot in Valsad, a city filled with beautiful farmland and lotus ponds that make a beautiful inclusion in this narrative too, celebrating the context. The home occupies the place of the family's earlier abode, a rambling 22-room structure, which also functioned as their office, standing next to a small well. The client had purchased it from a Parsi gentleman, complete with beautiful wooden furniture. While the rooms were numerous, they were tiny, and the spatial orchestration was not at all user-friendly. Plus, with ageing family members, particularly one who is physically challenged as well, the need to shift to a modern home with an inclusive, barrier-free design became crucial and pressing.

he commission was clear: to design a singular dwelling, a future house and a true home. The plot itself, however, presented as an ordinary urban lot, regular and flat, without distinguishing features, facing a car-friendly street and set within a hybrid urban landscape, seemingly disordered and shifting depending on one’s point of view. Within this context, the act of designing proved demanding. The main challenge was to transform a place without identity into the central reference of everyday life for those who inhabit it, turning an undifferentiated urban plot into the one place one truly wants to live.

Located in the Czech village of Krámy, near the Brdy Highlands, a weekend house designed by Anna Koukolová architekti has been built on a sloping site bordered by a grove and a stream. Clad in charred spruce, the timber house is based on a simple structural system, honest materials, and a carefully considered layout that makes its modest floor area feel unexpectedly spacious. While the house turns away from the neighboring buildings, its glazing and framed views maintain a continuous visual connection with the surrounding landscape. At the beginning of the pandemic, the clients were looking for a peaceful weekend retreat outside the capital city for themselves and their dog. Just 40 kilometers from Prague, they found two adjoining plots sloping down toward a small grove.

ESH Hotel & Spa is a 29-key hospitality development located on a sloping site in Nosara, Costa Rica. The project began with a central challenge: how to create a destination hotel on a property with limited long-distance views. Rather than organizing the experience around a distant panorama, the design constructs an internal landscape from the site itself. Preserved trees, a natural creek, planted courtyards, water, and shaded outdoor spaces become the primary points of orientation throughout the hotel. A solid architectural frontage defines the edge facing the road, protecting the interior of the property while accommodating service and operational programs. Beyond this boundary, the project opens progressively toward the existing vegetation and the more secluded side of the site. This contrast establishes the main spatial logic of the hotel: a controlled public edge followed by a sequence of increasingly open and private environments embedded within the landscape.

The Paraiso Remodel transforms a ranch house in a hilly East Bay neighborhood into a light-filled family home. Originally a T-shaped structure with a piecemeal 1960s addition, the house had grown dark and chopped up over the years, prompting its new owners to turn to Austin Sandy for a rethink. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath home, complete with a garage, was laid out in relation to an existing pool, though it was the primary bedroom, rather than the living spaces, that enjoyed direct access to the main outdoor areas. The renovated house feels calm, warm, and carefully composed. Rather than relying on decoration, it creates character through natural wood, soft light, and clean lines. Oak cabinetry runs through the interior, bringing warmth and texture, while black-framed glass and smooth concrete floors give the spaces a crisp, modern edge.

The house is conceived as a metaphor for the valley it inhabits. The design borrows the language of a bustling street skyline, stretching the home along a corner site so it frames the valley and its lake. Three linear bays, offset vertically and linked by corridors, open the plan to filtered western light and cross ventilation, letting the house mirror the character of the landscape around it through texture and material. The same qualities that make the house porous to the valley, its openness and reflective detailing, also blur the boundary between sanctuary and wilderness, drawing insects, birds, and animals into spaces meant for people. Balancing that permeability against livability shaped much of the design.

The core concept of Mac Casa is a liberated living environment that seamlessly blurs the boundaries between the interior and exterior. It is a space where vegetation weaves through the architecture, and varying floor elevations emulate the natural topography, enhancing the spatial experience of movement and daily life. Here, human routines and nature coexist harmoniously beneath a vast, sweeping canopy of shade. First, nature is interwoven into the living space. The project serves as a second home—an annex adjacent to the client's existing primary residence. The site is a typical townhouse plot located within a dense urban area, with only a single street-facing frontage. The challenge was to integrate abundant green spaces within the spatial constraints of a townhouse. To maximize visible greenery, our solution was to layer the vegetation across multiple levels from front to back, intertwining it with the living areas without using rigid partitions.

A home is perhaps the most personal architectural expression of its owner. More than any other building type, it reflects individual values, ways of living, and the gradual evolution of everyday life. JNG House is the result of a shared journey between the homeowner and the architect, where both perspectives matured together over time. The project translates this evolving understanding into an architecture defined by clarity, restraint, and carefully considered simplicity. Every aspect of the house, from the masterplan and circulation to its architectural language, interior atmosphere, and material selection, was distilled to respond precisely to the owner's lifestyle. Rather than pursuing complexity, the design focuses on eliminating the unnecessary, allowing each space and detail to serve a clear purpose.

The design of Sítio da Ponta Fina, located in Aiuruoca, Minas Gerais, revives the occupation of a plateau on the slopes of the Serra do Papagaio, introducing a main house alongside complementary structures for support, leisure, work, and guest accommodation. The main house features a symmetrical roof along its diagonal axis, with its ridge pointing toward three waterfalls cascading down the stone cliffside on the slope above, while the view opening up at the opposite end of the diagonal axis looks toward the waterfall at the bottom of the valley. The layout of the main house follows a simple, geometric order, accommodating a bedroom, a spacious social area integrating the living room, kitchen, and dining room, and two opposing verandas.

Glade House occupies a generous plot in central Singapore with a broad street frontage, using a layered façade to screen its family's lives from the public realm while maintaining a strong connection with its environment. The house remains breathable and cool despite the tropical climate, allowing for comfortable living. Louvered aluminum screens shield its upper floors from the street while modulating sunlight through them, maintaining an intimate connection with nature. These operable screens work in tandem with deep roof overhangs that encourage cross-ventilation from end to end, maintaining thermal comfort even through the monsoon seasons. A row of towering, mature rain trees forms a green perimeter around the property, softening light and cooling their surroundings. Native to the tropics, they further connect the house to its climate.
